wifi VoiceChatClient - Image 1Infantile Paralysiser (cool name, really) finally updated his uber-useful wifi VoiceChatClient for the DS, after almost a year since its last update.

Those who aren't aware of Infantile Paralysiser's voice chat client don't know what they have missed out on: the wifi VoiceChatClient is basically what its name says, a chat application that is voice-enabled. It also supports the same scribbling function as the PenChatClient, which further adds to the fun factor.

There's only one minor tweak to this latest VoiceChatClient version, which is:
  • The WiFi library was renewed to 'dswifi-0.3.3'.
While Infantile Paralysiser provides English translations in his site, there's still some phrases that he didn't translate or clarify. As always, you can take a crack and check if you can decipher some of the entries that weren't translated into English.

Here's the download so you can try the application yourself. Be sure to spread the word to your DS-gamer friends for some chatting fun!

DS Lite Onyx Black - Image 1Over at the VoIP Service Blog, they've compiled a few ways to use the DS for free WiFi VoIP calls. It's actually pretty easy to have WiFi voice chat with your friends. This list is just a few of the common ways.
  • VoiceChatClient. The VoIP Service Blog linked back to our previous article on Infantile Paralysiser's WiFi VoiceChatClient v1.5. This homebrew not only lets you have voice chat, it also has an added bonus: whatever you scribble on your touchpad can be sent to the other person. To run this homebrew you will need modified firmware or cards that allow you to run homebrew.
  • HelloDS. Alias-Zero, using Stephen Stair's WiFi Lib, has this VoIP application at the NDS Emu website. It is a proof-of-concept, and an update still has to appear. Like VoiceChatClient, it requires modified firmware or a passthrough device.
  • Metroid Prime: Hunters. As we reported way back in February of 2006, Metroid Prime: Hunters has a VoIP feature. So you can use this game to chat. Just meet up with your buddy in the pre-game lobby and chat away.
  • DSpeak. DSpeak is Nintendo's VoIP solution. It was demonstrated at E3 2005, but it's still a no-show until now. When (or if) it does come out, it will allow in-game and out-of-game chat.
Now you know. So chat away.

Attention NDS newbies! If you're new to the whole homebrew scene (because you got a DS or DS Lite for Christmas), just check out the helpful FAQs and tutorials at our forum at the NDS section of forums.qj.net, and they should help you figure out the ins and outs of Flash Cards and firmwares (you can download homebrew there or at dl.qj.net).

wifi VoiceChatClient v1.5 Infantile Paralysiser is proving he is the most prolific developer in the DS homebrew scene. In case you're counting, this is his second update for a second app for the day. The first was the undecipherable NDSkybookM. And now we have wifi VoiceChatClient v1.5.

wifi VoiceChatClient has been described as a more highly evolved version of Infantile Paralysiser's PenChatClient v0.1 because it shares a similar interface and scribbler on the touch screen. The main diff is that this one has voice support. Now for the tough part: translating the Japanese text into English. These are some of the info we know for sure:
  • The communication protocol for wifi VoiceChatClient v1.5 is is compatible with v1.4
  • 'Default eight color palette' was added to the color picker
  • The main window can be scrolled with the cursor key
  • The room number is displayed in the main window
  • 'Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector' and 'DS station' cannot be used. Please use a wireless router.
  • If you do not do anything for 3 minutes the service will logout
Now these we're not sure what they mean:
  • It has not tested almost with WAN
  • Because (DHCP) it is difficult to be connected by example, several degrees to be persistent power source ON/OFF please try doing.
  • When power source of the radio rooter ON/OFF is done, there are also times when it moves.
As for the rest of info in Japanese... well, we'll let you take a crack at it.

VoiceChatClientInfantile Paralysiser has come out with VoiceChatClient v0.1. This looks like the older brother of PenChatClient v0.1. It's got the similar interface and the scribbler on the touch screen. But if the name of this homebrew is any indication, it's also got voice support.

Infantile Paralysiser brought us MoonShell, WiFi Bootloader, and SNTP Client, and MoonShell was a homebrew that drew a lot of positive comments. And now PenChatClient evolves into VoiceChatClient? We wonder what's next.

Like previous articles on Infantile Paralysiser's homebrew projects, we are impressed with the homebrew achievements despite the fact that most of us can't understand the Japanese website. The translation is of little help:

It has not tested almost with WAN. The person of the environment where my place and UDP [reitenshi] are 0.15 seconds or more is harsh, is. Much. Because it blends entirely after, language setting regardless of, English being audible, without getting angry, don't you think?. Because (DHCP) it is difficult to be connected by example, several degrees to be persistent power source ON/OFF please try doing. 'Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector'[to], 'you cannot use the DS station '. By all means please prepare the radio rooter. It is different) as for security function unless it makes invalid, you cannot connect name"ESS-ID stealth function" of the radio rooter and "stealth AP" and so on (with the manufacturer. 'Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector' and 'DS station' cannot be used. Please use a wireless router.

Update: Infantile Paralisyser has made an update. The application now has a unicode font and a private chat function was added (see that nifty "Lock" icon at the bottom?).

One last thing, badam told us about v0.1 yesterday; unfortunately I didn't credit badam because the article was already in the works (I was working on the article based on what I found at Infantile Paralysiser's website; I didn't know about badam's tip). To badam and all of you who send in reports and notes, we'd like to thank you and all you QJ readers who send in reports and updates! badam, keep the good news coming!
