Mario, Sonic still surpass CoD4 in Chart Track on Feb. 23 - Image 1And as the 2008 Olympics draws near, it's hype seems to grow more influential. While Beijing has been transformed to house an Olympic city - making the latter a city within a city - Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games makes serious headway into the casual gaming market. Or maybe it's just in the UK, where SEGA's joint Olympics game with Nintendo holds top spot for another week running.

Disney Interactive Studios, focusing family entertainment for everyone - Image 1You can't spell Disney without family entertainment. In an interview conducted by GamesIndustry.biz, Thierry Braille, Disney's vice president, talks about how Disney wants to concentrate on total family entertainment through video games.

Although Disney does not want to abandon their other, more mature markets, with Turok (PS3, Xbox 360) published under the Touchstone label and their other sports games under ESPN, Braille stresses that uniting families in a single activity can turn video games into a force for good. This would definitely put video games into a better light considering the flak they've been taking lately.

Braille had this to say regarding the matter:

We have titles that are for a younger audience, but there are more titles, such as High School Musical that could gather the family, after the Sunday lunch maybe, and we can imagine them singing together. This is Disney – this inclusive way to bring the family together and have fun.

He also commended the efforts Nintendo platforms have been making in forcing publishers into creating games "of the highest quality" for the gaming industry. Leave it to Disney to always put things into a more wholesome and morally upright point of view.

E3 Media and Business Summit news - Image 1 At the E3 Media and Business Summit 2007, Disney Interactive Studios announced their list of upcoming video games and discussed a number of its plans for the future.

Disney's investments naturally include product development and talent. The studio has grown to staff 700 people in 11 countries and it has plans to put in US$ 130 million in product development for this year. Since gamers won't really be interested in the numbers, we'll go ahead and give you the list of upcoming games discussed during E3, including the announcement of a couple of sequels, a new online community, and Turok's release date.

First off, Disney Interactive Studios announced an online community for the DS called DGamer. DGamer will enable gamers to chat with other gamers, create their own avatars, and trade in-game items. Gamers will be able to connect to DGamer via the DS' Wi-Fi connection, so basically players can connect to the community anywhere. Players can also connect to the community via DGamer's channel at Disney.com. The said app is currently being developed by Fall Line Studios and will be the bundled in free with all Disney titles starting May next year.

The rest of the Disney titles come after the jump!
