Square Enix Final Fantasy IV available for cellphones? - Image 1We're just as surprised as you are. The Nintendo DS may have been the prime platform to release the sequel - if ever they were to make one - to Final Fantasy IV, but a recent discovery over the Internet has swept that possibility aside. While a sequel was officially confirmed, it was not to arrive on Nintendo's handheld.

Details follow in the full story.

QJ.NET reviews: Contra 4 - Image 1 After horrendous attempts of going 3D and using all sorts of gimmicks to beat the dead horse, Konami has finally given justice to its original arcade classic. Developer WayForward Technologies took Contra 4 back to its grandfathers, and created a game for the Nintendo DS with all the elements that got us hooked with Contra's first coming. We played it, died a few hundred times, but ultimately conquered and here's our review.

Nintendo's best selling NES console - Image 1Old school gamers should keep silent for a moment to mourn the loss of our dearly beloved Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super Nintendo Entertainment System consoles, which have brought many happy moments in our video gaming career.

Nintendo has announced that it will be officially dropping all hardware repair support for the two of its most celebrated consoles of all time. Ken Toyoda, Nintendo Japan's spokesperson, has finally commented on reports a few weeks back that the company will be ceasing to offer hardware support for its Famicom and Super Famicom (the Japanese equivalent to the NES and SNES) consoles.

SNEmulDS - Image 1Heads up, intrepid emulation lovers out there. We've picked up word that Archeide has released a new version of SNEmulDS, the handy-dandy SNES emulator for the DS. Now on version 0.6, this new build of SNEmulDS is currently in alpha stage, but one big change this version has from the previous iterations of SNEmulDS is the addition of support for multiple languages.

Here are the basic list of changes for SNEmulDS v0.6:
  • New GUI using framebuffer for sub screen
  • Better human interface, improved file selector (alphabetically sorted), buttons, check boxes, multi choose zones, etc.
  • New GUI supports joypad (joypad is not supported when emulator is running however).
  • Multi language support (more than 10 supported, including katakana Japanese!)
  • Memory pak support (Opera RAM, Slot 2 card reader, etc. using libram) with paging or with large ROM mapping
  • Scaling with pseudo bi-linear filtering and sprites squishing : full screen scaling (like snezzids), half scaling (half scaled and without sprites squishing), and no scaling (classic snemulds mode)
  • Automatic SRAM saving when needed
  • Some other bugfixes and improvements in GUI
Note that to get the new language settings to work, you'll first have to edit the config file that comes with SNEmulDS v0.6. In any case, Archeide has a more in-depth explanation on his blog as to how that works. In the meantime, make sure you check the readme file that comes with the package so you can better understand how the emulator works.

Phantom Hourglass screenshots - Image 1Phantom Hourglass screenshots - Image 2

In case the guys are getting a little anxious for Phantom Hourglass' upcoming launch for Japan this June, we'll providing the readership with another batch of game screenshots for your perusal (courtesy of CVG).

Of special note for this batch is the distinct green hearts in one screenshot, which has much to do with the Phantom Hourglass' powers in-game. Also of note are the extensive pixel count this game promises for the DS, and the appearance of an old memorable - the shovel from A Link to the Past for the SNES (hint: look to the screenie's upper right). Happy viewing!
