johanb123 has been busy lately in his quest to perfect his homebrew game for the Nintendo DS, Puerto Rico DS. Just to give a little background about the board game, it actually originated in Germany and it tasks players to take up the unenviable role of governors during the time of colonization in the Caribbean. They must claim as many victory points as possible, which can be achieved through a wide array of strategies. The board game is the brainchild of Andrew Seyfarth.Puerto Rico DS has an interface copied from Ben Harrison's Window and Linux version of the boardgame. If you can see, the game is pretty much still a work in progress, so you may encounter some glitches while playing it. It's just a good thing that the good developer is doing the best he could to remedy the problems. Just a few days ago, he fixed some problems with the game, and now he is dishing out another update. So what are the new things you could expect in this updated version? For starters, the game now has "a brief-in game descriptions of both building and roles". The developer noticed that most people just have no clue how to play the game, so he added a little something for them. Aside from that, he was also able to fix a bug that has been causing random crashes, thanks to iball who pointed it out (and also for the heads up)! See, your comments play an important role in the perfection of this app! So with that, here's the game and we hope you have fun with it! Download: [Puerto Rico DS (Stability Updated)] |

johanb123 doesn't like breaking his promises - that is why eventhough the latest version of his DS port of the popular German boardgame Puerto Rico is not yet completely polished, he decided to release it today...because he "did promise something this weekend". Based on Andreas Seyfarth's award-winning boardgame that is placed against colonial Puerto Rico during the Caribbean ascendancy, Puerto Rico DS has an interface copied from Ben Harrison's Windows and Linux version of the boardgame. As this was a bit of a hurried release, johanb123 admits that "There are still plenty of glitches to be smoothed out" although the four player game - two humans and two AIs - is already included in this new version. On to the sad part: the glitches. The developer says that the game may crash occasionally while obtaining an IP address - so when you get a red screen before game starts, johanb123 advises that you just try again. Also another downside, "You must have your connection saved to the WFC settings (with Mario Kart DS or any other official wifi game - yeah, it's a pain - sorry)". Yep, there may be some glitches to this release...but you can bet your boots that johanb123 will keep on working to make Puerto Rico DS better - his every release has proven that. So until a better version comes along, we can content ourselves with this "slightly better than the last one" release. If you have any suggestions and constructive criticisms, share them through the comments...who knows, they may see their way in future releases. Have fun! Download: [Puerto Rico DS - 290706 Update] |

Andreas Seyfarth has done a wonderful job with Puerto Rico, a popular German boardgame, that his game has already received a remarkable number of prizes all over the world - including the International Gamers Award for General plus Multiplayer Categories. Now Puerto Rico, which lets players assume the roles of Puerto Rico colonial governors during the Caribbean ascendancy, has been ported by johanb123 to the Nintendo DS. The first release already had game mechanics fully implemented with dummy AI players serving as opponents. Upon the release, johanb123 promised to improve on these AI and implement a TCP/IP multiplayer mode - so a few days ago, he gave us an update saying that work on the latter has already started. Today, another Puerto Rico DS update comes our way: the multiplayer test is now in our midst. If you like to see how the multiplayer part of the game is faring right now, feel free to give the download (provided below) a go. Don't forget to provide your constructive criticisms and feedbacks on the game's state by leaving your comments below or visiting the Puerto Rico DS site (here).
