New Twisted Metal game coming? - Image 1After David Jaffe posted a shot of an internal email he sent, details leaked about a new car game he's working on. He may have blurred the pertinent details, but there's always someone with mad photoshop skills out there who could work around it - to some extent at least. What they managed to unfog leads to a car game, now speculated to be a new Twisted Metal game.

OH NO! - Image 1I think most gamers know that screenshots are often doctored to make them snazzier, even if they don't readily admit it to themselves. It was always just a kind of open secret, but that was until Activision posted this particular job listing on Gamasutra.

Camp Hyrule cancelled this summer - Image 1Nintendo fans out there will probably be disappointed that Camp Hyrule has been cancelled this summer. In lieu of this, they have decided to hold a sweepstakes where the winner walks off with a life-sized statue of none other than Link himself.

Camp Hyrule started back in 1995, and is essentially an online camp normally held in August. In the event, players could chat, play online games, and win prizes under the supervision of Nintendo employees and Nintendo Power columnists.

This online simulation has everything you'd expect from a summer camp: campfires, water sports, and archery. Participants are assigned to cabins, where they work with other participants to earn points through various games, a Photoshop contest, and other events.

So is this the end of Camp Hyrule? Well, there was no specific mention about it closing for good, so there's still hope for next year. If you're interested in joining the sweepstakes, head on over to the Camp Hyrule site through our read link to get some details.

Apple iGame - Image 1The PSPBoy - Image 1

The PSPBoy? The Apple iGame? Like many a video game myth we know, names like these went down in the annals of gaming history as some of the more hyped consoles we almost expected to launch. For today's April festivities, the folks from 99lives have provided a top five list of hoax video game consoles that includes other names that many of you may have heard from before. For our first system:

Sega Phoenix:
A rumor started back in 2005, the Sega Phoenix promised, among other things, the computing power of four AMD processors, a 120GB hard-disk drive, and backwards compatibility for all previous Sega gaming systems titles. Rundown: It had the PS3's specs, a Wii-like retro gaming library, and the Xbox 360's looks (with liberal amounts of blue) - imagine the phrase "Looks like pork, smells like fish, tastes like chicken..."

Sony PSPBoy:
The name says it all - a cross between the PSP and a Nintendo Gameboy portable consoles. As it turns out, this faux-portable gaming system was crafted by our very own MaDSouL, who pulled off this project using his computer's trusty Photoshop application. Among other features the PSPBoy was rumored to carry were 2GB memory sticks, LCD screens and dual analog controllers (the PSP's thumb analog, to be accurate).

amazon.comDecember 11 will go down the history of Amazon.com as its best day ever in terms of sales. The company was able to sell more than 4 million different items, a good number of which had a lot to with video games. And who's the king of this particular videogame hill, you ask? Nintendo's handheld, of course.

The company didn't furnish exact figures for the DS Lite but mentioned that it was indeed the top seller on that day. They also highlighted the record-breaking 1,000 units sold in 29 seconds for Microsoft's Xbox 360 in their Amazon Customers Vote promotion. Mentioned too was the PlayStation 3's predecessor, the PS2, as a big seller.

In software sales, Amazon revealed that their top selling games for a single platform were New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age, both for the DS. Sports title Madden Football ruled the multiplatform division. The MMO expansion title The Burning Crusade was the major top seller for all pre-orders. The Sims 2: Pets and art package Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 were both given recognition as well.

Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezoz couldn't help but show his appreciation to customers because of this success. "Video games were a customer favorite again this year. We are truly grateful to our customers. Happy holidays and happy new year to all from Amazon.com employees around the globe."

MarblHow confident are you with your coordination skills? Personally, I'm not much good in that department. We're talking about that guy who could manage tripping himself. I'm a klutz. Period. That's why when we got this Marbl (demo) homebrew from Heran Bago, I tried to give my hand-eye coordination another chance.

The game plays like Marble Madness, only this one's 2D. You roll, jump, boost, and maneuver your marble across the course and try to make good time using the direction pad. Here's the rest of the controls:

  • A = Jump
  • B = Boost
  • R = change Core
  • L = change Shell
The time counters (best time and previous time) are saved in SRAM. For a game that was done 80% in MS Paint, and 20% in Photoshop, we have to give the guy some credit. And on top of everything, the physics of this game is surprisingly good. So good, in fact, that it gets very tricky when the obstacle course gets more complicated. Coordination skills are key. It's just that I can't unlock it.
