Siliconera went patent-spotting recently and guess what they found - two Namco Bandai patents sharing a similar theme: "Skies of Fury" and "Skies of Hostility." When Namco Bandai and skies are on the same subject line, one would probably remember their flight simulator, Ace Combat, which hasn't been making its presence felt in the gaming scene in a while. Another installment, maybe?

Newport Beach, California-based firm,  Shared Memory Graphics LLC, is taking out the big guns and going after three of the top tech makers in the industry, namely Apple, Nintendo and Sony, alleging that these companies have infringed on their patent rights.

I haven't really kept up with the Front Mission series after the third one, but that may soon change as it looks like Square Enix is planning to bring a new Front Mission game to North America.

The Nintendo side of the gaming world is still pretty quiet - at least from where we're standing. This week's recap of the hottest Wii and DS news isn't exactly the hottest, but at least it still keeps you in-the-know with the Nintendo gaming scene.

These patent infringement lawsuits really are getting out of hand. This time, Sony, Nintendo and Nokia are being sued over a patent for an invention that will "allow an operator to distribute messages having aural or visual content that is generated by the operator using handheld apparatuses such as mobile telephones."

I'm wondering why they stopped at three companies. They should sue every major electronics company while they're at it.

Remember when Konami sued Harmonix over Rock Band (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii) for alleged patent infringements last year? Well, Harmonix and owner Viacom is fighting back with a counter-suit filed Wednesday.

Another lawsuit against Nintendo has cropped up once again, this time over the touch-screen capabilities of the Nintendo DS. John Martin of Illinois claims that the popular handheld has infringed on his patent, that describes a electronic game device that has "an improved method of operating a touch screen." It won't be surprising if Square Enix doesn't have plans of releasing the Dragon Quest remakes for the Nintendo DS outside Japan, since the rest of the world is likely to frown at old-school RPGs. However, fans of the legendary franchise may actually be lucky enough to grab a U.S. version of Dragon Quest V. See the full article for details.

Then here's another tidbit that Konami Digital may have thrown our way: another registered trademark in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has been found to be bearing the title Castlevania on it. We never know what Capcom has up its sleeves - one day it'd be announcing Street Fighter 4, and then revealing a Bionic Commando remake the next. An intriguing tidbit just came up, which is a trademark filing for "Spyborgs" that may hint at the company's next project. More details after the jump.
