Nintendo's DS handheld - Image 1There's been no end of homebrew games which just make innovative uses of the Nintendo DS stylus. Homebrew developer Noda has brought it upon himself to create a 3D puzzle game making extensive use of the stylus controls in a game titled Marble.

As the title implies, you take control of a marble to navigate through a maze and reach the goal at the end of it before time runs out. Check out how the game rolls right after the jump!

Warcraft: Tower Defense v0.4 by Noda - Image 1 Warcraft: Tower Defense v0.4 by Noda - Image 2

Noda and his perpetually updated Warcraft: Tower Defense homebrew game for the Nintendo DS is back; this time around as a submission to the NeoFlash Spring Coding Competition. Take note that there are two versions in this release: one in PAFS that works only on slot-2 GBA flashcards, and a DLDI FAT version for any flashcard (including those who use slot-1 cards).

Here's the full changelog for Warcraft: Tower Defense v0.4 beta:
  • PAFS version was broken in the last release, now it's working again
  • corrected the bug that prevented max towers bonus for first evolution to be applied at start
  • corrected colors of selection circle, it looks better now
  • fixed the animation bug when a monster is killed at spawn
  • fixed sprite scrolling, now sprites are in phase with background while scrolling
  • updated the map editor, see its changelog for details
  • added a bunch of new features for maps, like small & transparent monsters, W3 damage style, choice for the colors used in the minimap for painting entities...

Check out the rest of the Changelog after the Full Article Jump!

Aside from the readme, included also in the game archive is a very helpful manual in pdf format. If you haven't been following the continuous updates and development notes of this homebrew game, you can check both of the documents in the zipped download.

Warcraft Tower DS - Image 1Noda has just updated his WoW-based homebrew game for the DS, Warcraft: Tower Defense. This time, the gabeen bumped up to v0.31.

Now, for all those who are itching to have the multiplayer feature up, sorry but this version doesn't have that yet. Noda's already aware that a lot of you guys want that but he says he's still waiting for a new "WiFi lib with enabled NiFi for local multiplayer."

Eventhough Tower Defense remains multiplayer-less, it still packs in the good old fun you've been having with Noda's brew...albeit with tons of bug fixes and updates of course. And as usual, we suggest you check out the readme for more info about this brew.

Changelog
:
  • now use latest devkitpro (r20) with latest libnds, libfat & palib
  • stylus precision & jumping problems fixed (thanks to latest libnds)
  • stylus problems with R4/M3 simply should be fixed (thanks to latest palib)
  • corrected the bug that make the map selection screen froze when there was more than 10 maps (FAT version)
  • Stat screen flickering/disappear bug in the upper part fixed (thanks to latest palib?)

Warcraft: Tower Defense - Image 1Just as promised, Noda has finally added DLDI support for his homebrew game. Warcraft: Tower Defense v0.3 is not only just an update, but is also now his entry to PAlib's DS Dev Compo. Noda notes that not all of the bugs mentioned in the previous release have been fixed since he's been quite "very busy with his real life" and still looking for solutions to some of the bugs.
  • now use latest libfat with DLDI support
  • corrected a bug in the file filter, now FAT version works without having to rename the maps
  • fixed the missing border of some icons
  • temporary workaround for solving the screwed up sprites problem
  • added a new bunch of great 3rd party maps
  • corrected some bugs in the “Save The Snowman” map
  • corrected tower collision map in the “Long Walk TD” map
  • added a circle around the current selection
  • new map: Orange Frenzy
Now, on to the fray: he might be quite busy and all, but that doesn't mean you can't help him out with his development. He's promising to include maps that you guys send with every new version that he releases.

I'll have it up in no time. Too late. - Image 1QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Blood Elf Engineer: Hmm... Tower Defense? No, that's a silly idea, it'd never work.

Noda has released v0.2 of his Warcraft: Tower Defense beta. A number of bug fixes, as well as a few adjustments in the gameplay so your towers are erected with a minimum of fuss (Still not multiplayer, though). Two big additions to cheer about are:
  • New maps, nearly all of them user-created (and Noda thanks everyone who submitted their maps!)
  • Now the PAFS version of the game can be used with the DeSmuME emulator.
The game is well-documented, with manuals for the game, manuals for the map editor, and important Readmes for the PAFS and Fatlib versions of the game in this package. It would be such a waste if these documents are left unread. So, whenever you're ready to prove that defense is the best offense, download v0.2 below, RTFM, and get cracking. And now, a word from our sponsors, the United Blood Elf Engineers' Union, masters (and skeptics) of tower defense.

'I'll have it up in no time.' is an official term of the United Blood Elf Engineers' Union and should not be taken as a reasonable actual estimation of the actual time it will take to complete a task in any way, shape, or form.

Noda has issued the first release of Warcraft:Tower Defense v0.1 beta - a DS adaptation of the Warcraft III mod. This homebrew game now works only with flashcards that allow PAFS working such as Supercard, M3 (using the .ds.gba), and maybe a few others.

Warcraft: TowerDefenseNoda reminds one and all that this is only the beta version. If you want to know what the final version would be like, it will include the following:
  • Fatlib (DLDI version) map loading
  • Options menu to choose to use either PAFS or Fatlib loader & change some preferences
  • New sound engine
  • Stereo sound placement for the in-game SFX
  • More palettes for monsters
  • A manual and a complete documentation for the map editor
  • Multiplayer function
But for now Warcraft:Tower Defense v0.1 beta has only one map. With the included Map Editor, Noda expects a lot of new wonderful maps from fellow Warcraft fans (that means you)!

How to use: Put the maps (*.tdm) in the /Maps subfolder, then double click on "ADD MAPS.bat"

For more info, please refer to the readme file.
