Whoever said that there is an external hard drive in development for the Wii? Definitely not Nintendo. This is what a Nintendo of Europe spokesperson has confirmed regarding the matter. That such reports were merely "pure rumour and speculation." So we guess that should be enough to stop those rumors from spreading around. Although we'd have to say that got our hopes up.Nonetheless, what Nintendo did confirm was that there will be a new DS headset that will be able to fully support online voice chats. And it's perfect, actually, especially since Pokemon Diamond and Pearl will be having online voice chat among players. However, there still is no set date as to the release of this newest DS accessory, though it will most likely be launched along with the Pokemon titles for a price of US$ 14.99. At least we know for sure it's coming. Let's just hope they don't axe it in the meantime. |

We hope this next tidbit will put everything to rest. Not that we're trying to suppress the word or something, but for the sake of Connor O'Keefe's soul, we hope to end this right here. Because you see, the kid isn't a victim of Nintendo. He was accidentally electrocuted while trying to unplug his GameBoy.With that said, Nintendo of Europe recently released a press statement regarding the matter. It reads: "Nintendo wishes to offer its sincere condolences to the family of Connor O'Keefe. Details of the accident are currently unclear so we are unable to make any further comment at this stage." It should be remembered that this thing somewhat blew out of proportion when local tabloids gave the story a sensational twist such as headlines like "Killed by GameBoy." Furthermore, the local police officials have always maintained that no blame whatsoever has been attached to the company. We also send our most sincere condolences to the family of the kid. |

With Nintendo of America bringing Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl to these shores in late April (as well as European shores via Ninty of Europe later on), and based on what they've told Kikizo, they will NOT be happy if they find Japanese versions of the game over at those mentioned shores. Begin quote, Robert Saunders of Nintendo of Europe, to Kikizo: We in no way condone the importing of games into territories other than where they are supposed to be sold... As in the past, if deemed necessary we will issue cease and desist letters to retailers whom we know are selling imported games not intended for sale within the EEA. Nintendo rigorously protects its worldwide trademarks and in doing so ensures fair play in the market for all retailers. End quote, enough said. Importers have had their warning. |

The people over at Nintendo must all be "walking on sunshine" right now as their lovely little DS Lites have just achieved an enormous feat: breaking the record for the most number of video game consoles ever sold in a span of only seven days. You can feel the love right there. This is all coming as a sweet add-on to the fact that the recently-launched Wii has been performing well since its release in U.S and in Europe. As a kicker to this success, figures have recently shown that in the past week alone, some 515,000 units of DS Lites were sold across Europe. That's the highest number that any of Nintendo's consoles has ever achieved in a week, and as mentioned above, it is also the most that ANY console has ever sold in a single week. Since it was launched in Europe last March of 2005, up to 8.5 million DS Lites have already been sold, and that number is expected to climb even higher especially this Holiday season, with the pink DS Lite being a popular item of choice for a lot of shoppers. How sweet it is, indeed. |

We couldn't help but have our tongue lolling when we chanced upon this rumor. While Yoshi's Island DS is piggy-backing across North America and will soon follow onto Europe come December, the producer for the Yoshi Island franchise was recently questioned by Nintendo of Europe. Toyokazu Nonaka was asked about the controls for the DS title, and before you know it, they were talking about the Wiimote. With the Yoshi's Island gameplay of sticking tongues out, laying dino-eggs, and running after babies floating away in bubbles, it was inevitable that they'd talk about how it could be a hit in the Wii. What transpired? Check this out... Nintendo of Europe: Were some of the people involved in the original SNES game also involved in the DS version? Toyokazu Nonaka: Yes, they were. The members who supervised level design, graphics, and sound at Nintendo's side were people who were also involved in the original Yoshi game. And Mr. Tezuka was one of them. NoE: A big new addition to the gameplay is the use of abilities of the different babies. Would you say that you've made a "strategic platform game" by making this such an important gameplay element? TN: Yes, you could say that. In this game, when you change baby characters, a strategic element kicks in, and more puzzle solving intellect will be required in many cases. But, here too, it's not outrageously difficult to play, so don't let it scare you off! NoE: The gameplay mechanic of sticking out Yoshi’s tongue and shooting eggs at different areas of the screen is something that would really lend itself well to the Wii Remote. Are there any plans for Yoshi's Island Wii? TN: Any plans for Yoshi's Island on Wii? Well, I think I will keep that a secret for now! "A secret for now?" Could that mean that they're actually already planning it? There is some reason to believe in this though. They already have the stage set. As he said, he's got the Yoshi's Island team already assembled for the DS version. It's going to be easier for them to continue this momentum and hop onto the Wii, right? Keep on your toes, folks! We'll bring you guys more info as soon as the eggs hatch! |

When Nintendo said they are looking at untapped markets, we thought they meant women and the casual gamers. Unknown to everybody, the Kyoto-based company was talking in terms of geography as well. Business Daily's Nihon Keizai Shimbun just reported that Nintendo is about to open a distribution office in Russia. And it is, like they always say, with love.According to the report, it came to Nintendo's attention that the U.S., European and Japanese market are already maturing. Despite next-gen releases, characters like Mario and Pokemon need fresh markets with "strong growth potential." The decision apparently was made after the company's operating profit more than tripled in the fiscal, first half until September of this year. The newspaper correspondent also wrote that Nintendo of Europe has already appointed a local agency to start selling game hardware and software starting November. It is a given fact that the DS will be frontlining the new Russian campaign. The paper, unfortunately, was unable to secure information as to when the Wii will be making its debut there. |

Have you ever gone through something that really disappointed you? Like looking forward to Christmas morning because your parents told you that they would buy you that thing that you've been asking them for since forever; and then it turns out that what they got you instead was a sweater, and it was pink and two sizes too small? We're thinking that's how some people will feel when they read this post. See, Nintendo of Europe has just confirmed that quite a few 2006 releases will indeed be delayed. Actionloop, which was originally slated for an October 27 release date, is supposedly going to be the first game to be released in 2007. Square-Enix's Mario Slam Basketball, meanwhile, was not confirmed to be delayed but it seems like we won't be seeing the game on store shelves before February 2007. Star Fox Command, formerly set for November 24, will also be delayed. There's still no word on the new release dates for the aforementioned games, but this development has left DS owners with only a few games to look forward to this year. |
