It's been a long time since Bronto last updated his NDSMail homebrew application, but today we've received word of yet another update to this excellent email application for the DS. With this app, you're never too far away from your messages, as long as you have a WiFi connection for your DS where you can access your emails.Bronto would like to apologize for the absence of releases recently, but as he says, NDS development can be very time-consuming. It was worth the wait though, as although Bronto is still having problems with SSL, this version has been compiled with the latest Devkit, dswifi, and libfat (DLDI), so even owners of the new wifi-chipset DS Lites should be able to use it. This latest version also contains all the changes from the large overhaul of last autumn, including save mail support. When you run this version make sure you take a look at the new attachment feature by sending some jpgs to your DS. Just remember, JPEG lib is causing some problems at the moment so try sending small JPEGs first! Download: [NDSMail 0.54d] |

We reported earlier that a new update was coming shortly for the DS-Xtreme DS flashcart, and here it is - v1.0.2! Along with the new update, the DS-X team have also released a beta version of their "Win32 Update Tool". The Windows update tool allows updating of the DS-X a breeze (no need to constantly download new update files each time a new one is released). The tool will automatically detect the newest update and what your current version is and installs it.The newest, and first update - 1.0.2 adds improved compatibility and support for Supercard (SC) saves has been added along with other fixes and changes. I was thrilled to see the support for SC saves because I could use the G6 Save Converter to convert my M3 or G6 save files into a Supercard format (.sav) and now I can use that on my DS-X! Here's a full list of the changes in this new firmware -

However, not everything is rosy as this is still a work in progress. Here are a few notes which the developer added:

This just in: Bronto, the developer of the widely popular NDSMail, issued the latest WIP update on his homebrew. According to him, he is still preoccupied with another project which has delayed the release of NDSMail upgrades. The good news is, Bronto is set to roll out a maintenance release with new fat drivers and some other fixes. "There seem to be a lot of problems with the newer Supercard variants. Unfortunately these are very hard to track down and fix without the hardware," says Bronto. NDSMail allows you to send and receive email on your Nintendo DS and supports Gmail, SMTP and other stuff. |

Back in July, Bronto released version v0.47 of his popular hombrew app that lets you send and receive mail using your Nintendo DS. What's great about that version is that it supports Gmail - a feature that has been on top of NDSMail fans' wishlist since the app's release.Since the last release, Bronto hasn't been able to work on the app, but he's aware that users are having some problems with mini-SD flash cards. He thinks that the version of the fat lib he's using is what's causing the problem. He's also considering an "auto-connect" feature for the app, as proposed by one of his friends. What the app will do is connect to any open access points in range, if none of the preferred access points is found. If this feature does get into the NDSMail, you will then be able to find an open non-protected access point. Though this is a great feature, it may be illegal to some countries. Users of the app have also been reporting random crashes, which are caused by the keep-alive ping to the access point. Bronto hopes to release a new version within the next few days with keep-alive as an option and using the newest version of the dswifi library. |

Last time, Bronto posted an SSL Test Version Update to his popular homebrew which turns the DS into a weapon of mass e-mail communication - the NDSMail. Previous versions, as expected, had their issues and limitations but now Bronto has just released the new and improved NDSMail v0.47!The latest update now supports Gmail, a feature NDSMail fans have been clamoring for. Here are the rest of the changes in v.047:

If you've been keeping an eye out for updates on the NDSMail, you're in luck. Bronto sent word that a new SSL test version has been released so you can all check it out. In the new test version, pesky bugs were fixed and SMTP over SSL is now partially working. However, the non-SSL support is currently broken. Also, it still doesn't write dump files. NDSMail followers would be glad to know that Bronto has fixed the problem on reply button and the crashes when receiving mails. NDSMail is a popular homebrew application as it allows DS owners to send and receive emails using the handheld. It has SMTP support so there's no need to log on to a PC to get with your email business. Download: [NDSMail New SSL Test Version] |
