Lazyone is most certainly not being lazy with this latest release of his DS homeberw, Wolfenstein 3D Test Release. While it's only a few days old, and there may be some things missing, it should be palyable. Download: Wolfenstein 3D Test Release |

Lazyone has just announced that an alpha version of the Wolfenstein 3D port for the DS is already out. This newest build has quite a few improvements that have been added to it. In addition to this, the developer gave word on some of the enhancements planned for the future. The added new features include sound (no music), saving, and a status bar on bottom screen. Lazyone also said that this update was also compiled with the latest libfat which means that it should now work with most if not all DLDI devices. Pretty nifty if you ask us. Be careful about upgrading your Wolf3d binary though since saving is broken between builds and causes the game to crash. The developer also gave word that if you are experiencing a few graphic errors, you should try the binary fix build which should correct it. Since the game doesn't come with a readme file, here are the controls and installation instructions according to the post on Lazyone's site: Keys: Turn left: DPAD Left Turn right: DPAD Right Forward: DPAD Up Backward: DPAD Down Strafe Left: L Shoulder Strafe Right: R Shoulder Shoot: A Use: B Next Weapon: X Run: Y Installation Instructions: Copy the wolf3d folder into the root of your media card, run. The plans for the next build are pretty exciting as well and include adding music, a build for registered versions and Spear of Destiny, access to the configuration menu, and further sound enhancement. All in all a pretty solid effort by Lazyone and one that fans of this classic game will appreciate. Our thanks go out to Lazyone for sending this in! Lazyone has posted a quick little update regarding the progress of Mini vMac on his dev blog over at Drunken Coders today. According to him, Mini vMac can now use the ram on some GBA slot cards (Supercard/M3) thanks to everybody who donated towards the Supercard (yay for homebrew-supporting people!)
Due to this development, it is now possible for Lazyone to include builds for a 4mb configuration. Lazyone says that Mini vMac currently runs at 8-16fps when using ram in the GBA slot, and thanks to Wintermute's help, the speed penalty "when using external ram is alot smaller with a difference of around 3fps compared to using the main ram." Finally, Lazyone has released a shot of 4mb emulation running on a DS, thanks to RyanFB. Check it out below and keep checking back here on QJ for more updates. |

Wolfenstein 3D (aka Wolf 3D) is a video game that made the PC FPS genre into what it is today. In that game, players take on the role of American soldier BJ Blazkowicz. The goal is to escape from a Nazi camp heavily guarded by armed men as well as attack dogs. Along the way, BJ must find a number of hidden rooms containing various treasures, food supplies, medical kits, and weapons. It was only a matter of time before a DS homebrew developer took on this game and that guy is Lazyone. Last we heard of Wolfenstein 3D port for the DS project, developer Lazyone was working on its sound, music and building a control panel "in case someone needs to adjust the gamma correction or remap their keys." Then silence. Complete and utter silence. But that's how Lazyone works. Nothing wrong with working at your own pace. We're actually delirious with envy that he could work at his own pace. Anyway, today, Lazyone has released the latest WIP about Wolf3d. He says the next release is creeping closer now that the status bar has been finished. Meanwhile, he's moved on to the music. So for those of you wondering, BJ Blazkowicz is still alive and is coming to your DS. |

LazyOne isn't lazy, as his name might imply. He's just been preoccupied with his other pet project, the Mini VMac. Of course, now that he's had his fill of the Mac emulator for now, he's going to start working on further improving his Wolfenstein 3D port for the DS. One of the things people have been clamoring for in an update was a non-text only status bar. Unfortunately, he still isn't going to add that one just yet, but he's adding a lot more goodies in its place. As he writes on his blog: Here are some things you may see in the next release: - Sound (Digital only, no synthesized sound yet) - Music (Looking possible, either by directly emulating the adlib sound hardware or by conversion) - Builds for all wolf3d versions (wolf shareware/registered, spear shareware/registered) - Saving/Loading (though not on flashcarts at first, I still have to think about that) I will also look into building a control panel incase someone needs to adjust the gamma correction or remap their keys. He's also thinking about adding in a cheat system, but let's see what he does first, and hope his next version of the game includes the happy, happy sounds of videogame death. |

First, Lazyone lures us in with news that he had successfully ported Macintosh System 6 on the DS but has not released the emulator yet. Just to show us though that he is in the process of perfecting the emulator and that indeed the news is real, he posted a video on YouTube showing System 6 running on DS. But in a world where some people get a kick out of tricking others, we cannot exactly blame the DS community for doubting the truth of the System 6 emulator. Lazyone's answer to the doubting thomases? He did not fake the whole and thing and he "never will fake any sort of release or software". Just to assure you guys that this is not a hoax, he is posting photos of the emulator running on a real DS. In addition, he promises to release a proof of concept version as soon as he's able to fix a few issues with the mouse code.
I hope (and I'm pretty sure so does Lazyone) these pictures have put all your doubts to rest. And come on, Lazyone has already released a nice homebrew game that I'm sure most of you DS owners have been enjoying. Remember Wolfenstein 3D? Yup, that's his! So let's all shut up with the "It's a fake!" accusations and wait patiently for the emulator to be released. |

Used in the late 80's, the Macintosh System 6 operating system was made in machine code (as opposed to recent Mac OS, which is programmed in C) and supported only 24 bits of addressable memory rather than full 32 bits, allowing it to address a maximum of 8MB of RAM. Also, this OS had no built-in support for virtual memory.Features of System 6 may seem not just a bit outdated to today's generation, but a recent article we ran showed charts that revealed how the vintage Macintosh System 6 operating system outperforms a 3GHz Windows 2000 PC. If that article perked you up and you're quite interested on laying your hands on a System 6, unfortunately, it's no longer available - but here's an emulator that will most probably the closest you can ever be to controlling a System 6.
Lazyone has posted photos of his System 6 emulator for the Nintendo DS. Although not a "speedy emulation due to the lack of optimization at this point", Lazyone assures it was faster than he initially thought it would be. Now if only he can soon share this emulator to all of us... |

Lazyone's Macintosh Plus emulator called MiniVMac has had its share of highs and lows during the past couple of days. Although, he has proven that early Macintosh emulation is indeed possible, the output he produced wasn't exactly what he was hoping for. Maybe to clear his thoughts, he worked on tracking down a sound bug with Wolfenstein 3D first, before delving into MiniVMac. And on July 12, 2006, with the much appreciated help of the people from DSDev, the display corruption on the MiniVMac has been fixed. In this photo, it shows the emulator looking for a startup disk.
Just to refresh your memory, the Macintosh Plus was the third model in the Macintosh line, introduced two years after the original Macintosh and a little more than a year after the Macintosh 512K. It even made an appearance on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Back to the Future II.
