devkitARM version 21 - Image 1Developer devkitPro is sending out word that the latest build for devkitARM is now available for download. For those asking, DevkitARM is a toolchain for programming homebrew software for Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. There are two versions available for use: One for Windows, and one for Linux OS. Here are the latest changes for devkitARM since version 19b:
  • Upgraded to gcc 4.1.2
  • Added gdb by popular request
  • Now including libraries for ARM big-endian devices - this relates to a request from the winARM maintainers, not DS related.
  • Newlib patches extended to allow time() to work on the DS
  • argv has been added - this will require support from the homebrew launcher menu on various cards
  • ndstool now uses the default arm7 core distributed with libnds in preference to an embedded one
  • Now working on Vista/Vista64 - users who were impatient and modified paths should now remove those changes
Keep note that devkitARM will require libnds 20071023 to run properly. libnds 20071023 carries these latest changes:
  • some freeBSD fixes to makefiles
  • added RTC setup and sound initialisation to arm7 core
  • corrected glViewport for openGL consistency ( old spelling was glViewPort) , correct angle for gluPerspective and corrected glFrustum matrix
  • IRQ nesting now works properly
  • other more general fixes detailed in the changelog on SF
  • DS examples updated for latest libnds
Downloads for both software will be provided for here, although we strongly advise readers to visit the devkitPro website for further information regarding this developer's tool.

DS Game Maker in action - Image 1

FatQuack has released DS Game Maker v1.5, an application designed to help homebrew creators in making games. According to FatQuack, the application is a WYSIWYG game maker for people who use PAlib which makes it easier for them to create an interface for their homebrew. (You'll still need to use C or some other programming language to breathe life into it.)

Here are the changes since version 1.0:

v1.0:
  • Image transparency (Magenta is replaced with transparent).
  • Makes sure you don't use image sizes that don't compile in properly.
  • Sprites can snap to grid.
v1.5:
  • It has image transparency and gives you the ability to set the install path of DevkitPro both of which are set in a .ini file.  It also has a property dialog for sprites that appears when you double click on a sprite in the canvas.
Just remember that you'll still need to program life into your games, and that to run the application, you'll also need .net Framework v2.0 or higher. Enjoy!

Tettatt DS - Image 1

Thanks to Badam, we heard about the triumphant return of one fine piece of homebrew, which everyone knows as TetattDS. It's now known as TetattDS v2.0, the game's just as fun as ever, and even comes with a ton of new functions.

In any case, here are the latest features for TetattDS:
  • New graphics!
  • New sound and music!
  • Now saves high scores to FAT if available (otherwise it uses SRAM)
  • Server now works on ppc
  • Bug fixes
  • Improved building from source
  • Built with latest devkitpro
Perhaps one of the other things we really like about this is that the blocks are friendly to the colorblind, as there are requisite symbols to represent specific colors as well. In any case, why don't you give it a try and see how fun it is? Enjoy!

BabylonPapafuji has just released an update to his long-idle homebrew game for the DS, Babylon. Why long-idle? Well, if you'll remember, the last update to this brew was waaay back in October last year, when Papafuji released Babylon v0.9.

But just in case you weren't able to catch that, Babylon is based on the board game created by Bruno Faidutti called "Babylone." Gameplay objective is simple: you use the stylus to pile up towers of the same height or top color.

The major update in this version is the added compatibility with M3 Simply and R4DS cards, and Papafuji says that he updated this with the latest PAlib and Devkitpro.

Papafuji has also released the source code for Babylon, so if anyone's interested on tweaking the game, make sure you consult him first, alrighty? Enjoy!

devkitPro Updater - Image 1There's a new release of devkitPro Updater for you guys, which should make the process of selectively downloading the devkitPro team's toolchains and programming tools a lot easier and, hopefully, more bug-free.

The app lets you download the latest versions of their different toolchains for the PSP and DS, as well as some other DKP releases. Best of all, you're free to pick and choose what you need, so PSP users won't have to go downloading all 170-something MB if they want to try devkitPSP 9, and neither will DS users when they want to grab devkitARM.

As the devkitPro team state on their website:

devkitPro Updater 1.4.2 has been rebuilt with the latest NSIS 2.23 and a more recent version of the inetc plugin used for downloading files. This should be more stable and hopefully remove the installer crashes some people have been experiencing.

That being said, it's an easy-to-use interface, and veterans who've been using their toolchains shouldn't have any problems getting the latest updates through it. Enjoy!

Warcraft Tower DS - Image 1Noda has just updated his WoW-based homebrew game for the DS, Warcraft: Tower Defense. This time, the gabeen bumped up to v0.31.

Now, for all those who are itching to have the multiplayer feature up, sorry but this version doesn't have that yet. Noda's already aware that a lot of you guys want that but he says he's still waiting for a new "WiFi lib with enabled NiFi for local multiplayer."

Eventhough Tower Defense remains multiplayer-less, it still packs in the good old fun you've been having with Noda's brew...albeit with tons of bug fixes and updates of course. And as usual, we suggest you check out the readme for more info about this brew.

Changelog
:
  • now use latest devkitpro (r20) with latest libnds, libfat & palib
  • stylus precision & jumping problems fixed (thanks to latest libnds)
  • stylus problems with R4/M3 simply should be fixed (thanks to latest palib)
  • corrected the bug that make the map selection screen froze when there was more than 10 maps (FAT version)
  • Stat screen flickering/disappear bug in the upper part fixed (thanks to latest palib?)

Nitrotracker is cool!Tobias, otherwise known as _0xtob, has gone back to working on his NitroTracker application and we're happy to announce v0.3 of his app.

For those who don't know what this app does, it's basically a music sequencing app that runs on your DS. It'll allow you to edit pieces of audio on the fly and, combined with DSMIDIWiFi, you can also use it as a sequencer for your own applications. Best of all, it now has MIDI support, which gives it more versatility.

You can find the full changelog after the jump, but below are the basic features that have been added for NitroTracker v0.3. Just make sure you check the readme and documentation so you can install it correctly. Enjoy the download!

Features:
  • DSMIDIWiFi support
  • The song restart position can now be set.
  • WAV preview in the file selector
  • Pause/Resume
  • Pattern looping
  • Reboot DS (press Start+Select)
