The Nintendo Weekend Warrior - Image 1The old: the music may be decades old but the most successful band in history charges into the gaming world, showing us its box art and its bundle. As for the new, Nintendo's fancy new controller is not looking back - you're gonna have to get the new games if you want to make full use of Wii MotionPlus since Nintendo won't add support for older games. Meanwhile, Nintendo is looking forward to coming months, where they expect the hardware sales that they've enjoyed for a long time.

warning labelAt this rate, if all these bills being proposed get written into actual law, video game box art would be obsolete. In their place, it's just one big white label on the cover: warning warning danger warning! Following last week's proposal of having a huge list of warnings on game boxes (sodomy, rape, bestiality, incest, murder, etc.), a new bill now wants a warning label linking photosensitivity epilepsy and video games.

Contra 4 - Image 1Konami has opened the official site for its upcoming Nintendo DS action title Contra 4. In true Contra fashion, the front page is in chic black and flames with the cool box art and the Contra logo taking center stage. A "Buy Now" link is also right there to take you to a page where you can make transactions secure.

Contra 4 uses a 2D side-scrolling interface while utilizing both screens of the Nintendo DS. Players can move across the two screens by ascending and descending with a handy grappling hook. In addition to the normal 2D stages, three special 3D bases are also included to add diversity to the time-tested Contra formula.

Kirby's more macho than ever

Now, with a game called Kirby: Squeak Squad, you know you can never go wrong. First, there's its oh so macho title that reeks alpha male goodness. Then there's Kirby itself, a little pink blob of sunshine that SUCKS things 'till kingdom come. I mean, come on, you can't get any manlier than that, right?

Well apparently, there's still room for improvement. Nick pointed out to our source that the North American release show a leaner, meaner Kirby. Compare and contrast it with the Japan release, and you can see that the US box art features one tough Kirby on the cover. One quick look at the little pink ball and you can tell that yep, Kirby does means business. Why, anyone would shiver in terror just staring at it all being kickass-like.

HAL Laboratory's DS game has been released in Japan last November 2, while North American fans can look forward to this game on the 4th of December. It features a multiplayer option (up to four players to be exact), power mixing (basically, you can mix and match abilities here), and a fun environment where you can burn trees and freeze water.

box artAll Spiderman-lovin' DS owners out there, boy do we have a treat for you. We have just gotten our hands on a whole web of screenshots, as well as the official box art for Spider-Man: Battle for New York.

Join good old Spidey as he leaps and crawls all over New York City as he tries to save its residents from disasters and destruction. For a change, players will have the option of playing as either the good or bad guy in the game's dual-sided story.

You can choose to either play as Spiderman (and save NYC) or his long time nemesis Green Goblin (and wreak havoc in the city). Sounds interesting, huh? Players will also be able to customize their abilities and powers by choosing what and when to upgrade (i.e., Spiderman's web maneuvers or Green Goblin's fire attacks).

Spider-Man: Battle for New York will be crawling your way this fall, and since you're gonna have to wait just a little bit more for the long-awaited release to come, here are new screens to help ease the pain. Enjoy!

Touch Detective Box

What you see above is the box art for Touch Detective, a game that's being brought over to our shores by the awesome people at Atlus. The game looks like it could be the next Phoenix Wright! It has a very unique art style and an interesting premise. As the name of the game implies, you'll be a detective who solves mysteries by using the touch screen.

Touch Detective should be released in October of this year. Look out for it because it'll likely be very rare, just like all Atlus titles. Hopefully, it'll be good enough to get us through the wait until  Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice for All!

US Boxart

We got you guys some new Pokemon Ranger material today - Box art and screenshots! And for those of you who are eager and are planning to get Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, note that Pokemon Ranger can be linked up with both of those games. While the latter two are scheduled to come out spring of next year, Pokemon Ranger will be released next month to help us tide over the long wait for Diamond and Silver.

Now for those of you guys who haven't heard of this game yet, a pokemon ranger is different from your regular pokemon trainer (like Ash Ketchum from the animated series). A pokemon ranger roams around the land, not battling with other trainers to earn badges, but uses his or her own pokemon to deal with baddies that try to harm nature. Just like a ranger in a park!

So, without further ado, here are the screenshots:

Box art for NDS MechAssault: Phantom WarMajesco Games' Battletech-based third-person shooter MechAssault: Phantom War can now be pre-ordered through superufo.com (which also gave the box art for the game - check stage right). The pegged price is US$30.74, and will be shipped to the buyer when the game hits stockrooms and store shelves starting September 16 (with the usual "Please allow (a certain amount of time) for delivery." Oh, the burden of snail mail).

MechAssault returns to the Inner Sphere plunged into a new crisis. Something has knocked out the Hyperpulse Generators (HPGs), the instruments of long-range communications between worlds, and has plunged them into chaos and conflict. MechAssault: Phantom War is the first handheld appearance of the game series, having appeared before on the PC and Xbox, and true to its DS platform, features wireless 4-player multiplayer combat.

Above is the tentative box art for Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. A pretty good looking box in my opinion and it may just end up looking similar when finalized. However, the most interesting point is the Nintendo WiFi Connection logo at the top. Is Square Enix planning a WiFi component for its upcoming game? We wouldn't be surprised considering Final Fantasy III has one too.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker would have some very obvious implementations of the WiFi Connection. If it does have an online component, we're guessing that players will be able to trade and battle monsters with other players. This would be similar to Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl, which will both be online as well. Hopefully, we will get more info that we could share to you soon.
