Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith has revealed that they have now set their sights on breaking into the action genre with a brand new IP. Details about the IP are still scarce, but Griffith did share with Develop why Activision, which has become decidedly restrictive when it comes to new IP, made the decision. I bet you guys can guess why.

No kidding, they sure made up for that drought the past how many weeks. And no, we don't mean just random Dream Series titles for the DS. We're talking real games here! Okay, wanna bet? Try Class of Heroes for the PSP, or the multiplatformer Prototype. You want lots of music? Take your pick from among Guitar Hero on Tour: Modern Hits, Rock Band: Unplugged and Classic Track Pack. How about sports? You're in the mood for some sporty action? We have golf, tennis, racing, pool. Take your pick. We've got an exceptionally news-filled week for issue #65 of the QuickJump QuickPeek, thanks in part (a whole lot) to the recently-concluded GDC that happened in San Francisco. There were a lot of announcements and revelations, both inspiring and jaw-dropping alike. Yep, it's looking like it's gonna be yet another good year for gaming.

E3 is back and bigger than ever! ... is what I want to say. But you get the next best thing. E3 is back and it's bigger than last year! Restrictions on attendance will be lessened this year, and Activision Blizzard, the company that started the studio exodus from the ESA, is back.

Atari President Phil Harrison wants to prove Activision wrong for dropping Ghostbusters like a hot potato when it merged with Blizzard, saying he wants to turn the video game into a US$ 100 million franchise. So much for Atari's goal to be "just an online company," and I couldn't be happier for them. Go Harrison!

After hearing the story of the Swede teen collapsing after 24 hours of playing Wrath of the Lich King, this news comes to no surprise for me. World of Warcraft's second expansion pack has sliced its way to second place in the UK charts, topped only by fellow newcomer, Call of Duty: World at War. In other news, LittleBigPlanet shot down form fourth place to 19th place. Ouch.

If you failed to catch it online, the 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards has just handed out honors. Activision owned as it picked up Publisher of The Year, and Call of Duty 4 (PS3, Xbox 360) racked up four other awards for them as well. Find out how the others fared in the full article.

Now we can all heave a collective sigh of relief for at least two of them. Atari has picked up the publishing rights to Ghostbusters and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.

Word on the street is that The Ghostbusters video game was picked up by Atari, but still won't be released till next year. How many more months before I can toast the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man? Gah, so sad.

What happens after a development team gets dissolved? Sometimes they get shuttled off to other projects. Sometimes they get together, come up with a cool name and logo, and go independent.
