While all you Naruto fans are awaiting the commercial launch of Tomy Corporation's and D3Publisher's Naruto: Path of the Ninja on October 27, here's another appetizer to keep you salivating: we recently came across an interesting gameplay trailer on YouTube. While the gameplay trailer was only short enough to tease, it revealed some intriguing things about Path of the Ninja's gameplay mechanics.
For instance, while the layout and the menus seem like standard RPG stuff, what really grabbed our attention was the process by which the player activated Sasuke's Phoenix Power Jutsu. Apparently, the hand seals for the various jutsu in the game are executed by rapidly rubbing the DS' touch screen back and forth, when prompted, in order to fill up a jutsu meter. Don't just take our word for it, though. Check out the actual YouTube trailer for Naruto: Path of the Ninja below. |

Now we all know the real issue over multiplayer on your "homebrewed" Quake is that there's usually no one to play against. The pre-defined servers are usually empty. The only way to get around that hassle was if you had the opportunity to create your own server and connect to it. Passa91 from YouTube has sent us an email saying that he has figured out a way to do just that, and he's even documented a how-to into a video. View it below:
Cross platform multiplayer, homebrew style! Of course, the big hurdle is that you have to have a wireless network installed locally for it to work. A wireless LAN card or a wireless access point wired to the PC server is bare minimum. Server and network settings might be a problem, too. The PSP homebrew game used in the video is a continuation of Peter Mackay and Chris Swindle's work on Quake for PSP. And it reached version 2, complete with infrastructure mode for connecting to servers. On the other hand, the DS would require its own version of the open-sourced Quake (the one by Simon Hall), and of course, a homebrew enabled DS. Both releases provided below will have the ability to connect to servers via infrastructure mode, thus allowing you to connect to the server. And just in case you don't have a copy of GLQuake, WinQuake or a retail version of Quake, you can attempt the procedure with the shareware version (available at any Quake fan site or major download site). Just don't forget to run a dedicated server - listen servers seem to have serious lag issues. And do not forget to go through the Readmes of the homebrew versions for complete installation procedures and proper warnings. Download: Quake for PSP v2.0 Download: Quake DS pre-release 2 |

A lot of us are Electronic Arts fans who religiously follow every installment in their annual sports franchises. Even that much loyalty though, is not enough to appease an angry gamer after spending US$ 60 to get a copy of Madden NFL '08 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, DS, PC) only to find out how glitchy it is.
Someone going by the name of PSYK0MANT1S on YouTube was very excited to get home from work to play his new copy of Madden. To his disappointment, two games were enough for the glaring glitches to appear. A lengthy post on his bitter feelings accompanied a video he uploaded . Taken from his rant: ...EA needs to STOP
releasing beta builds of their games. EA needs to STOP releasing a game
that needs a patch the next day. EA needs to STOP letting us the
consumer/gamer pay for a buggy product. EA needs to get their act
together and get some REAL Quality Assurance going on. Here are the glitches he was able to record using the game's replay feature. Oh, and before you click on that play button, be warned that the guy is enraged. So expect to hear a lot of... er... unpleasant-sounding rants. |

We can only imagine how awesome it would be to be Nicole Kidman's DS. To be on hand to cater to her every intellectual whim, to hear her laugh at her mistakes, to simply have her in the same room. Ah, the stuff of dreams (and restraining orders)!
As we mentioned earlier, Nicole Kidman is Nintendo's big European star, promoting Brain Age 2 (aka Brain Training) in the UK. Thanks to the YouTube powers of curvess2, we now have a video of the ad feauring Miss Kidman having a delightful time finding out her brain age. Some notable things here. She has a brain age of 52, and the way she says "Scissors" is absolutely delightful. Without further ado, here's the video. |

HOOOOOYYY! At this point in time, everyone and their trusty
Navi-Tatl-Tael fairy has probably charted expeditions online to watch
some videos of the full (Japanese) version of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Just like there was a boom of Halo 3 videos when the beta finally wired into the public, Phantom Hourglass videos are sprouting up everywhere like blue on the Great Sea.
Today, we have another video, this time showing the actual intro sequence from the game. And not only that, but a fan's translation of the text! Although it was uploaded to YouTube the other day, we wanted to save this for the weekend for some leisurely content. Uploader jokkir found the translation in some site (which we can't quite locate), as posted by someone named Kudaku. Now, now. We warn you as always: what you are bound to see below CONTAINS SPOILERS. Especially if you haven't played Wind Waker. (As an aside, I'm currently re-playing the previous title - on the Wii, no less - for a refresher course before I embark on my Phantom Hourglass journey; some of you might want to follow suit if you haven't yet) The first part of the intro recaps the previous installment, while the second part of the video seems to pick up immediately after the events of Wind Waker. Get your compasses, telescopes, and sea charts out! Make yourself comfy aaand... curtain up! Pic 1 - A Story from a little while ago...

For those of us who can't wait to get our dose of portable dungeon-crawling joy in Legend of Zelda flavor, here's a little teaser - a playtest video of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass uploaded to YouTube by mandiller. Let's take a look and see what's in store for DS owners come the game's U.S. release.
As the game starts up, we're treated to the game's opening sequence - a blue sea with seagulls flying overhead. Then we see Link, in his all-too-cute Wind Waker form, perched on a ship's bow. We see the aforementioned ship then sail by, and the title screen finally surfaces. We're taken to a save slot-selection screen of sorts, and then the gameplay commences. The promised stylus-centric controls are still there - tap a location, Link runs to that place. Tap an enemy, Link strikes with the Master Sword. Make a circle around Link, he performs a spinning slash - and it all handles pretty well. If this playtest video is anything to go by, DS owners should look forward to having a blast with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Updates as we get them - and in the meantime, enjoy the video! |

A few days ago, Nintendo announced a contest for short films. There's already an entry on YouTube but... well, it's far from being a film.
Looks like the contestant got it all wrong and decided to just edit a few clips into a short video. He simply used different images and video clips found online to patch something up worth a bit more than three minutes. The clips cover much of the series, missing only a few installments. While she may have gotten the wrong idea, we can give her props for being passionate about Zelda. Some informative messages also appear on screen, but they could be misleading with all the mistakes. Transitions were done well, music wasn't bad, but the overall look could've used more work. The most obvious flaws are the plain texts with plenty of typos. This would've been pretty good if it was Adobe Premiere's tech demo or something of that sort. You decide. Will this entry get a spot in Ninty's contest? |

The YouTube video below offers folks a glimpse into what happens after the game is over. This is not news. This isn't even anything remotely serious. What it is though, is just plain hilarious. Sure, the thing may be a week old, but it's just too insane to not be posted. Hey, it's a lazy monday, stuff like this is what the Internet is about.
Enough words. Just click play. Not as right out there as that Communist Mario video was, and not outright Machinama, but who cares? It's got Mario, Mushroom addiction, Princess Peach, domestic arguments, warp travel through plumbing, and a satiric lesson to a lot of gamers out there. |

I've been watching WoW addiction confessions on YouTube for the past few hours already, and let me tell you, there's an odd sense of guilty satisfaction. Guilt, because I know how it feels to be addicted to a game and actually lose hours I could've spent on something productive. More importantly, I feel guilt because there's this sick sense of joy in seeing that other folks got it worse than I did.
They didn't just drop out of school - they lost friends, and they got disconnected with family. They ruined some of the more permanent things in life, over something that was designed to be a pastime. Over something that was meant to compliment life and not take over it. I go: "Ha! Loser!" Yes, I know it's not nice. Schadenfreude, is the appropriate term, I think. As much as I'd like to post those videos, I won't. They're pretty common place in the intertubes and I believe they'll just bore you. Instead I'll post a video that'll make you folks go: "Ha sucks to be them!" Remember all those times your parents threatened to send you to boot camp if you didn't straighten out but didn't actually? Well, these Chinese kids aren't as lucky as you are: C'mon. Laugh all you want. They'll never know you were laughing at them. Guilty pleasures aside, what's your take on this? Is China going a step too far? It's not like they don't already have measures (systems that kill your character if you play too long) against addiction, do they really need de-programming camps stocked with pseudo-shock-therapy-acupuncture equipment? |
