It was a bit of a letdown when Activision Blizzard didn't include Ghostbusters: the video game (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, PC) in its list of releases for the remainder of 2008. Vivendi, however, indicated that all is not lost as they will be exploring other options on how to release it. The game will have to come in 2009, but someone has to pick up the publishing reins first. |

While Wii Fit and Grand Theft Auto IV vied for our attentions last week, Sierra Entertainment pulled a fast one and managed to drop a couple of bombshells of its own during its gaming-centric event, Sierra Spring Break 08. Aside from the new info springing forth for The Bourne Conspiracy, Prototype, and World of Conflict, we've also gathered tons of new details on the massively multiplatform Ghostbusters: The Videogame. The features, screens, and a little bit more can be had at the full story. |

Disney Interactive Studios recently voiced its stance regarding video games, but what about the other movie studios out there? Are they just as enthusiastic about licensing out their movie rights? Or do they actually publish video games themselves?More on the status quo in the full article, right after the jump. |

With the success of top grossing movies such as 300 and Doom, the trend of "crossovers" between Hollywood and the game industry is still going strong. Highlighting this, Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment President Yair Landau discussed the topic of convergence between Hollywood and gaming and how this connection is benefiting each other. The details at the full article! |

Taking a page from Square Enix's successful release of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" a couple of years back, Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced plans to release their own full-length CGI movie based on the hit Resident Evil (a.k.a. Biohazard in Japan) franchise. The movie will be titled "Biohazard: Degeneration", and will be the first full-length CG animation movie feature based on the popular video game series of games and movies. Many will recognize Resident Evil for establishing the survival horror game genre and its many successful titles across multiple platforms since it was first released in 1996. The latest iteration to the series, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, marks the continuation of the video game franchise and shows no sign of stopping any time soon. Following a successful spin-off on the silver screen, the trilogy of films produced and directed by Paul Anderson was well received by movie and video game buffs everywhere, with each movie grossing over US$ 100 million at the international box office. With Sony's and Capcom's announcement of this newest offspring for the series, fans of Resident Evil will definitely be watching out for this latest cinematic experience. No news on the characters or its plot in the complicated timeline of the Resident Evil series have been announced, but we're keeping our eyes open for any new developments from the two companies. Biohazard: Degeneration is currently in production and set to be released in 2008. |

Although both Sony Pictures Animation (under Sony Pictures Entertainment) and Sony Computer Entertainment both belong under the larger Sony umbrella, guess that they're not averse to some third-party outsourcing of film licenses. Happened before with SPE's Open Season (Wii, PSP, NDS, Xbox 360, PC), developed by Ubisoft Montreal, and it's happening again for the latest flick, Surf's Up.Surf's Up is the story of one guy's passion for surfing taking him into the high-octane world of competitive surfing. That the guy - and most of the characters - happen to be mostly penguins is just an incidental point in this mockumentary. This should make for an interesting surfing game. Wonder if it will be of extreme proportions... or if there will be rabbid cameos... (*WARNING* Bunnies Very Useful Scientific Facts #45-ish: Bunnies can't surf)

Top gaming executives will be given the chance to network and exchange ideas in GDC Prime, a closed-door event that will take place alongside the Game Developers Conference (GDC) next month. The invite-only event will take place over a span of three days and will include talks by Sony Pictures's Yair Landau and Shalom Mann, Foundation 9 CEO Jon Goldman and EA Los Angeles vice president Neil Young. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, conference director Jamil Moledina said that topics should revolve around "the practical issues surrounding developer mergers and acquisitions, how distributed development affects the bottom line, and taking the lessons of the iPod, MySpace, and YouTube profitably into the games industry". GDC Prime will take place at the W Hotel, San Francisco, between March 6 - 8. There will also be a networking reception at the start of the event, and a private GDC Prime Lounge will be available throughout for informal meetings. Members of the press will not be permitted to attend the event, but executives wishing to attend can request an invitation via the GDC Prime website. |
