With nothing except the announcement of its existence and the promise that "everyone at SEGA has huge confidence that Sonic is in the safest of hands [with BioWare]," the new Sonic RPG on the DS still seems to have created some buzz down at the forums.Wired Blog Network recently did an interview with BioWare's CEO Ray Muzyka and President Greg Zeschuk for Sonic's transition from running and jumping for rings on platforms into running and jumping for rings with a story. In the interview they talked about insights into the game's production and BioWare's challenges in creating it. Muzyka and Zeschuk assures Sonic fans that the new RPG will have "all the fast-paced action of Sonic, plus a deep and engaging storyline." Although BioWare is used to making games on a pretty grand scale, like Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, they are confident that the new Sonic RPG will still have "all the best elements that make up a great BioWare game." Also, making the game on the DS will be an advantage because people tend to play in shorter lengths on it, making it perfect for a fast-paced Sonic game. They also promise that all the characters and story elements of the old Sonic games will be present in the game. Developers hope that the game will appeal to old and new fans, and both young and old. |

Sonic The Hedgehog = RPG? Old school gamers will attest that there's just something wrong with that equation. However, if Mario was able to make the (quick) jump to the RPG scene, why not Sonic? Apparently, SEGA of America, Inc., SEGA Europe Ltd., and BioWare Corp have recently announced that they will be teaming up to bring us a new Sonic RPG for the Nintendo DS. The game doesn't have an official name yet, but we're hoping for something a little more original than Sonic RPG when it does gets released. Anyway, all the parties in the partnership are thrilled at the prospect of working together for to develop this game. President and COO of SEGA of America, Inc. Simon Jeffery, gave a few words about that and the confidence they have in Bioware. BioWare is one of the hottest names in RPG development in the world. Everyone at SEGA has huge confidence that Sonic is in the safest of hands, and that BioWare can create the ultimate handheld RPG experience for gamers of all ages. This confidence in Bioware is not surprising considering the list of top quality games the company has developed - Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and the up and coming Mass Effect. The chief Executive Officer of BioWare Ray Muzyka was very pumped up with the project and spoke about BioWare's commitment to bringing a great experience to gamers. As huge fans of Sonic ourselves, we're committed to delivering a truly amazing story-driven experience within the Sonic universe, focusing on capturing the character's broad appeal and placing him in a completely original adventure. Once again, Sonic The Hedgehog fans have a reason to rejoice. Hopefully, this game will be all that gamers expect it to be and more. Be sure to keep checking back here for more updates on this game. |
