E3 2008 Updates - Image 1The PSP is solid. No need to worry about the ongoing competition between it and the DS, and never mind that Apple's iPhone has joined in the ruckus. They've got big plans up ahead, and really, it's not them who's got to be losing sleep over this. So says Koller, and more. Check it out at the full article.

So much for wanzer action... - Image 1Square Enix definitely has a lot on their hands - so many titles, so little time. RPGamer was lucky enough to get themselves in SE's office, and came out with both good and bad news.

First up, the good news:
The bad news:
  • Slowdown in FFT: The Lion War won't be removed
  • No plans for Front Mission 5: Scars of War outside Japan
  • No plans for Front Mission 1st on the DS
  • FFXII: International will be for Japan only
Not too bad, eh? We feel for those deprived of their mecha goodness - let's just hope Squeenix gives the FM fans what they've been wishing for from Santa.

The folks over at Square Enix also re-confirmed that an MMO will grace the 360 and Vista. FFXI fans don't have to fear though, since they'll still get support and content like before. Similar to ArenaNet's Guild Wars, FFXI won't die out even when its sequel is born. No plans for Wii Virtual Console and PlayStation Store on PS3/PSP were revealed, but we'll keep you guys updated.

The future will have...Andre Vrignaud, otherwise known to the net as Ozymandias, pulled a Nostradamus of his own recently with his predictions for 2007. Being a Microsoft spokesperson though, you'll have to admit that some of his predictions are somewhat pointed, even if they do happen to be very logical.

We'll tread lightly here with one of the somewhat obvious Microsoft-favored predictions as an example:

By the end of 2007, total lifetime unit sell-through of home consoles will be led by the Xbox 360, followed by Nintendo’s Wii, with the Playstation 3 third. This order will also be true of units sold-through solely in 2007 (ie, not lifetime sales).

There's enough evidence to make that prediction viable, though we'd have to say the Wii is catching up far quicker than anyone expected. Since the total number of PS3 units created does happen to be far less than the total number of Xbox 360 or Wii units sold, Sony is the obvious dark horse for a 2007 sell-through victory.

Here are the rest of his predictions. Take a good note of his PSP-related predictions, as our own Chris L. made a fearless forecast similar to Ozy's. As for everything else, just remember that this is all speculation rather than fact, though you're quite free to put in your own two cents on the predictions he's given.

The original PSP (with memory stick) will be discontinued, and replaced by a new model with an integrated hard drive. The new model will enable connectivity to the Playstation store via internet connection, and allow you to purchase and download both emulated PS1 and native PSP games directly. Over time (meaning not in 2007), it will also allow you to purchase music and movies from the Sony store.

The future will have... ROBOTS! More of Ozymandias' insights and predictions after the jump.

Shenmue - 'nuf said

There are emulators, there's the Sega Genesis Collection, and then there are emulators (again). Sigh... Don't get us wrong, we like playing retro games, and we're thankful for all the effort being made by the homebrew community to bring us hacks of titles we've always enjoyed, then there's the Virtual Console and PlayStation Store for the next-gen consoles.

Even with Sega's console development now virtually non-existent, we still see the resurfacing of their classics in the many emulations, both official and unofficial. But it still begs the question: don't you ever wish the original devs would actually make a sequel to some of our beloved titles?

The guys over at Seganerds posted this question towards Sega, and listed up what they think are worthy titles to sequel. Here's the list, and for guys who were too young to remember these game titles, the full details are in the source link. As for us, the fact these dudes mentioned Shenmue and Panzer Dragoon, we know they're not just ranting - good choices there.
  1. Shenmue
  2. NiGHTS into Dreams
  3. Streets of Rage
  4. Panzer Dragoon Saga
  5. Skies of Arcadia
  6. Phantasy Star
  7. Ecco the Dolphin
  8. Legend of Oasis
  9. Samba de Amigo
  10. ChuChu Rocket!
