Optimus Prime and his gang are just about to reach the silver screen, which could only mean one thing for gamers - its multiplatform tie-in, Transformers: The Game is right around the corner. Daniel Suarez, Activision's Executive Producer for the game, sat down with Gamespot to share more info on this upcoming title.

First off, he gave a rundown on the movie's story. Three guys running into giant robots, yada yada. The game won't stray too much from the original plot, but there will be some twists and turns. Instead of focusing on humans, the Transformers will be taking the spotlight.

Also, taking a different angle, the games will show what would've happened if the bad guys win. As we all know, good guys always win; it's no different in the movie.

Suarez continued as he shared a bit about their history, how the movie guys got in touch with the teams involved in developing the game. "This game is gonna be so cool," he quoted the CG guys as he mentioned how skilled their developers are. He also mentioned the voice actors, some coming from the original animated series.

Check out the interview for yourself, to see some pretty awesome footage along the way.

Dreamworks and Hasbro are rushing full throttle towards the completion of the anticipated game tie-in of the Transformers movie for the PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, DS and PlayStation Portable. Aptly titled Transformers: The Game, the developers are bannering gameplay mechanics that will re-live the glory days of the immortal cartoon series all the while introducing it to the younger generation using a next-gen mantle.

For starters, players will get to choose whether they want to play as the heroic Autobots or the nefarious Decepticons. Both sides have a wide array of Transformers icons such as Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Starscream and many more. Switching from vehicle to robot form will be almost seamless in order to adapt to whatever the situation calls for.

Environments, as expected, will be fully destructible to up the sense of sheer, mindless mayhem. For those who would like to play with more of a thinking style, they can pretend to use on-screen objects to their advantage and be very proud.

Hasbro and Dreamworks also revealed that the PSP version will have 20 playable characters with unique stats, abilities, personalities and more.

Optimus Prime and Megatron are all set for a happy reunion for the multiplatformer game version of the classic 80s cartoon, Transformers. The voice actors, that is.

Yep, it's been confirmed. Prime voice actors Peter Cullen and Frank Welker have given their nods to reprise their roles as Autobots leader, Optimus Prime, and Decepticons head bot, Megatron for Transformers: The Game. And it was a very smart decision to make on the part of Activision, indeed. Says Activision's production head Laird Malamed, "As Transformers fans, we knew the importance of having the well-known voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron in the game."

Transformers: The Game is set to head out to retail stores this summer, with Traveller's Tales doing the work for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, and PC version. Meanwhile, Savage Entertainment is working at the helm for the PlayStation Portable version, and Vicarious Visions is responsible for the development of the DS versions.

So, while those companies are still busy tuning up them bots for Transformers: The Game, why don't you go check out this clip from the original Transformers series, where Optimus Prime and Megatron engages in a heated up battle? With the 80's rock music having that cheesy signature 80s lead guitar riffs playing in the background, this is sure to be one big blast from the past.

If you were a kid during the 80s, chances are you've tried yelling ala Optimus Prime "Autobots, transform and roll out!" [insert morphing sound here]. The original cartoon series has such a huge following that modern-day producers have now ventured into making a movie and a game based from the series' mecha lore.

Straight from Seibertron, we now have news of more game details for Transformers: The Game. Them lucky folks from the said site managed to catch a glimpse of the game via Hasbro preview at ToyFair and they've noted some very interesting details. Please do remember that this list was made by Seibertron (told you we got it straight from them) and thus should not be taken as official.
  • There will be an Autobot Game and a Decepticon Game for Nintendo DS, supporting 4 way multi-play.
  • The PSP will a version of the game (maybe different from all), but with 4 way Multi-Play.
  • Wii will get special Wiimote functions, such as throwing things, steering, etc.
  • You can play as 9 Autobots and Decepticons. Unplayable characters are going to be boss characters or other important characters.
  • There will be unlockable characters and possibly movie characters that don't appear in the movie (like Wreckage).
  • There will be G1 references in the game.
  • It has a full interactive environment where you can pick things up and throw it at the enemy...including a Burger King sign.
  • Burger King and Pepsi references were in the game, so we know they are sponsors.
  • As the robot you can punch, shoot, jump, transform at will and drive/fly around when you are in vehicle mode.
  • Autotargeting will be available.
  • For game play, it reminded me of Grand Theft Auto, where you can run around the city (perspective was similar to GTA). The steering of the vehicle looked well done, where you could oversteer around turns, etc. If you caused too much ruckus the police would come and the pedestrians would go around screaming, especially if you were in Robot Mode (so being in disguise is important). Pedestrian interaction was not completed yet, but we were hoping you could pick up people and thrown them.
  • Storyline is different based upon if you are an Autobot or a Decepticon, humans are part of the story, but not part of the gameplay. Because of the dual roles the Decepticons can win in this one.
This Activision-published title for the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and NDS is set to land/dock/park on retail stores sometime during the third quarter of this year. We just can't wait to see Optimus, Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Starscream, Megatron, the Insecticons, the Dinobots...ok, geek mode off.

So now, everyone knows that the great Optimus Prime will be in the new Transformers Movie coming next year. So the next  big question is this: will there a be a game adaptation of the movie coming our way too?

There have been rumors that the game will coincide with the movie opening (but right now it's just all speculation and there's still no definitive date yet, if there's even one). And rumors state that Activision may be the company that'll be making the game, and expect that the Transformers game will also be ported to all existing game platforms. (Come on, who doesn't want to play a game with Optimus Prime and Megatron?)

So while we wait for any Transformers-related game feature or solid speculation, we'll be posting some possible pictures for the movie, toy, and (yes!) game. Enjoy.
