LMP-NG - Image 1The developments keep on coming for the previously discontinued Lick's Media Player. Now taken over by Lucas, The iPod-looking DS media player has moved out of alpha and into version 1.02.

While there currently isn't a changelog for 1.02, we did manage to find some information on the 1.01 release, though it isn't much:

It's just a small bugfix with handling non-ASCII chars from RC3.

I uploaded 1.01 which fixes a bug with EZFlash.

But I promise I'll post detailed changelogs from now on.

You'll have to remember to DLDI patch the application if you want it to work, by the way. In any case, just stick the appropriate file into your flash card and run the app to get it to work. Don't hesitate to show it to your friends though, so they can be awed by the fact that you have a DS and an iPod in one neat package.

DS music on this - Image 1Well, Lick has all but completely discontinued the Lick's Media Player that he developed for the DS. That, however, doesn't mean that we still can't enjoy some Media Player goodness.

In trying to come up with a way to finish Lick's Media Player, a GBAdev user named Lucas apparently managed to rewrite it from scratch through C, rather than the C++ it was originally written in. As he mentions on the their boards,

In the end, it became a complete rewrite. No more C++, only pure C. At this time, I only have some basic functionality, WAV playback (files must end in .wav) and libmad playback (files must end in .mp3).

I need some feedback, if you can try, just download at http://www.cecm.usp.br/~lucas/lmp-ng/. Theres two versions, a .nds and a .ds.gba. Both are compiled with libfat DLDI, so you can patch if your flashcart does not work out of the box. The source is also in the same page.

He also notes that this is his first homebrew, so there are bound to be bugs. Still, it looks (and sounds) okay to us, so what's not to like? Maybe we can help him improve upon what Lick originally started, eh?

It's LiveWeatherIt's been a while since Lick updated DSLiveWeather, but we're happy to see an update on his application that DS fans might like. DSLiveWeather has been updated and given the "Vesper" build name, along with one additional bit of functionality.

What you should note about this Vesper build is that it's been compiled against Chism's DLDI, or Dynamically Linkable Disc Interface, an add-on for Libfat. This should allow you to store DSLiveWeather on more types of memory cards, though you've probably got one that's already compatible with DLDI if you're a veteran to the scene.

For those who haven't heard of it, DSLiveWeather lets you check the weather in your general area whenever it's turned on and a WiFi connection is active. Definitely useful for people who want to get even their weather news on their favorite handheld. Enjoy the download, and don't forget to send Lick some props for his app.

DS + iPod = lurve! As we all know, the Nintendo DS has got to be one of the most flexible systems out there. On top of its already wide array of features, coders have also vastly contributed to expanding the DS' repertoire of tricks and functions.

So, your DS can read ebooks, view images, play videos, play music, be an organizer, serve as an alarm clock, browse the web, and so on and so forth. Now, developer Lick is currently working on something which will ultimately turn the Nintendo DS into an iPod as well, complete with a clickwheel.

With this application, the "clickwheel" will be placed on the touchscreen side of your DS, while your playlist will be displayed on the screen at the top. In his post, Lick has also noted that he is still working on the app so that it can support both MP3 and OGG formats.

In the meantime, he has provided the file which pretty much just demos how the ClickWheel will work on your DS, so check it out.

With such a promising application in the works, we can't wait for the release to finally get here. So until then, let's just hope that the people over at Apple decide to stay away from this project, because, as Lick said, "I know that Apple won't like this. I'm thinking of making the player -skinnable- and use a different default skin. Also, I could release it with a message like: 'If you like this software, buy an iPod! We LOVE APPLE!'"

black DS LiteJust a few days back, we told you guys about this homebrew app for the DS Lite called LoveLite which lets you adjust the brightness settings of your handhelds easily, without having to tweak anything in your firmware.

Now, assuming you guys tried out the app's v1.3 beta, you've probably noticed some glitches here, a bug there, and whatnot, so to fix this, Lick just released v1.4 beta to take care of those woes.

But before we get into that, make sure you read Lick's important notes about his app here. You wouldn't want to brick your handheld now, would you?

That said, here's the changelog for 1.4:
  • FIXED Supercard Lite support. (See libcartreset 0.72)
  • REMOVED the annoying purposeless green flash when resetting. (The red one is still in there.)
Lick included the source.zip file but he says that this is for educational purposes only, and that if you wanna modify some stuff in the app, make sure you contact him first. Also, he's asking for your feedback on whatever bugs or glitches you might encounter so that he can fix them in his next releases.

dsLick has released his DS homebrew app called LoveLite 1.3 beta. The app lets you change your brightness setting on DS lites by running a file instead of using the firmware.

The changelog for LoveLite v1.3 beta includes the following new features:
  • All Supercard devices will now return to the sc menu. (SCLite users, please give feedback)
  • GBAMP (with chishm's hack) will now return to _BOOT_MP.NDS.
  • M3 devices will now return to the m3 menu. (M3CF and M3SD tested. If it doesn't work, try holding L.)
  • EZ IV devices will return to the ez menu. (Note: it takes a few seconds before LoveLite is initialized.)
  • EZ-Flash III and EZ-Flash II has potentially working code (not tested)The firmware is now tested before it writes the brightness
  • Fixed graphics glitches
  • The buttons now react faster with no input-delays
  • Fixed the iQue offsets
Before you install LoveLite v1.3 beta PLEASE READ the following IMPORTANT NOTES from the developer:
  • iQue users: Please make sure you have a -Flashed iQue- before trying this software. No tests have been done on iQue devices, because I don't have one. It should work as expected, but until people have tested it, I can't claim anything.
  • This software bricked a few iQues (hopefully, they were flashed) but the code is fixed. As you can read in the changes, the potentially dangerous code now includes checking of the firmware before writing to it.
  • The release is tested on western ds'es, but make sure your firmware is flashed if you're the first person to test LoveLite on your type of hardware. (FlashMe users are 100% safe!)
Now that you know what you're getting into you can download the software here:

The last time Lick gave us Aperio 2, it was still built with DSWifi update 0.3b. Now, Lick has managed to add more features to DS LiveWeather.

The application now works with the Supercard Lite and you can actually save the units preference in the Settings tab of Profile. You'll also find that the 'Updated x min ago' is now functional, showing exactly how old the information is. You can view the current weather and weather forecast of all the locations supported by Weather.com. Also, you'll have pretty icons that are taken with permission from Xbox Media Center Weather. You can now configure/load and save 64 unique Location Profiles and it comes not only with Full touchscreen control, but also keycontrol.

To install, just download the DSLiveWeather Aperio 3 link, then copy it to your homebrew device. Lick notes that if your homebrew device supports FAT then DSLiveWeather can load and save location data known as Location Profiles and downloaded weather data; however, you have to create a directory named "DSLiveWeather" in the root directory. See "DsWifi ready!" and "LibFat ready!" but if you see something like "DSWiFi failed!", report it to Lick asap. If you see "LibFat failed!", it means your homebrew device is more updated than Supercard Lite, and thus cannot support the Aperio 3. You can press SELECT on each tab to see the Help message for that screen.

You might just encounter some bugs when you download Aperio 3. When this happens, just report it to Lick. As the new version is not yet executed fully, Lick tells us that the remaining 7% may just be the completion of WiFi Configuration that allows the user to catch weather information by instantly connecting with free hotspots. Thanks for the awesome job, Lick and we're looking forward to future updates.

DSLiveWeather Aperio 2DSLiveWeather">Lick's sleek homebrew application called DSLiveWeather "Aperio" 2 will have you wishing the conversation gets a meteorological turn. Aperio being the Latin for "open," will surely open your opinion about weather conditions. Just boot up your WiFi connection and this application gives you live updates on weather conditions to any location.

According to his blog, this is the "First Official Release" that includes graphics, current weather and forecasts. It's a big leap compared to an almost B&W UI of earlier versions. Other changes are listed in the changelog:
  • Added Help screen, access by pressing Select.
  • Added forecasting! (YAAY!!)
  • Added a small iTWC logo, required in weather.com XML license.
  • Fixed some bugs, thanks for reporting them.
Bugs:
  • Still using the limited libFat, until DevKitPro r20 is out.
  • Please report any bugs that you find so I can remove them ASAP.
Keep up the good work Lick. Thank you so much for sharing your work.

aestusDSLiveWeather homebrewer Lick has updated his previous version into a more user friendly version, complete with graphics and icons. Unlike other homebrew updates, he's code-named his version releases with Latin terms. The previous one was apparently called "Tepidus", while this new one is "Aestus" (heat). This is his first official release with the icons for the weather.

Anyways, changes (from Tepidus release):
  • Better layout current condition.
  • One global server setting, so you don’t have to type that for each and every profile.
  • Left and Right switches between profiles.
  • Touching the information will switch between units (F/C, miles/km).
He also has some installation notes:
  • Make sure to create a directory in the root, named “DSLiveWeather”. (If you’re upgrading from previous installations, remove the trailing exclamation icon (”!”) from the directoryname.)
  • You must use the file ‘weather/fetch2.php’ from the server ‘lick.huuf.net’. Must.
  • You might want to delete reports.b, because there has been a change in the way DSLW loads that file. Though you don’t -need- to do it.

DSLIVEWEATHERAnother piece of great homebrew for the DS was updated by developer Lick. DSLiveWeather is a program that uses your weather.com location ID to tell you the weather in your area - straight from your DS! This program is definitely still a work in progress but it's very useful.

In order to use this great application, you must first download and install the .nds file listed below and have a WiFi configuration. Next, you need to start the program and input a server and filename. The two servers hosted by the creator are lick.huuf.net and lick.whatalicefound.net. Put one of those in the server window and then in the file window put weather/fetch.php if you use the 'Huff' server, and 'fetch.php' if you use the 'Alice' server.

Finally, you'll need your weather.com location ID. To get this information, go to www.weather.com and click on 'World' near the top. Enter your location, and then you'll see the code in your URL bar.

For example, mine is http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USIL0225. Therefore, my ID would be USIL0225.

There are more letters and numbers after that but that's all you need. Place that in your DS and hit 'Currently' and then touch the green tick. Every time you want to update you must press the tick. If you have location profiles saved, you can switch between them using the arrows at the top of the touchscreen. To make a profile, just have a folder called
/DSLiveWeather! in the root of your card. Enjoy!
