Nintendo DSi - Image 1We saw Shigeru Miyamoto checking out the PSP Go back in E3, but apparently, he's not the only bigwig checking out the competition. John Koller also went DS-watching at the expo, but instead of quietly doing so like Miyamoto did, the director of hardware marketing from Sony takes a little shot at the competing handheld, saying that "Mature games are cratering on the DS."

QuickJump QuickPeek - Image 1It was a tough week, alright, with the QJ team having to contend with a lot of fakers, a last-minute faking ourselves, and me personally now having to protect myself against some wicked magic of the black kind for leading people to believe that now is the best time to buy a Phantasy Star Portable - cos you know, news broke out that the PSP Brite has finally been hacked -- on April Fool's day. Yeah-huh, being fun sure is a lot of hard work. Thank goodness we've got juicy, exciting news from our friends in the gaming industry to balance it all out. And we've got them bundled up all nice and warm for you in ish #66 .

GTA art from Patrick Brown - Image 1Yet again, we hear from John Koller. He's been everywhere since yesterday. He already said that he wanted Ready At Dawn back for PSP development, and now, it looks like he doesn't want to let go of Rockstar Games too. Well, who wouldn't? Koller reveals that there are talks to get Rockstar back into PSP development for another GTA game (which gives the GTA: San Andreas Stories rumor some backing). In other Rockstar-related matters, he also reacts to GTA4's Xbox 360-exclusive DLC and the release of GTA Chinatown Wars on the DS.

DSi - Image 1"I can see the DSi being successful," said Sony brand manager John Koller earlier this month. Based on a recent poll conducted by Dengeki Online though, it looks like Koller might have misjudged the competition. From the look of things, there isn't any competition (compared to the PSP-3000's proven success at least)! A DSi poll from Japan shows 40% of people who answered Dengeki's questions actually won't buy a DSi, and only a slim 4% might buy a unit upon launch. More poll results in the full article.

DS PSP iPhone - Image 1So there's the new PSP-3000, the new DSi, and the iPhone. How different is the portable gaming market now? Satoru Iwata already gave his thoughts on the subject matter - that they're not after iPhone's market share. And who can forget? Even John Koller had a thing to say about the current competition - that the DSi may be successful, but will remain for kiddies under 12. So now, will anyone else give their own two cents? No, duh. Of course someone will pipe in! Enter Luc Bernard, creator and developer of Eternity's Child.

John Koller - Image 1"I can see the DSi being successful," says John Koller, Sony's brand manager for the PSP. But that's not the full story, of course. Koller was able to give his two cents about Nintendo's new DS upgrade, and while he does have some positive remarks, he still somehow manages to sneak in a potshot at the DS' demographic. Nintendo DS - Image 1Sony's John Koller may have claimed that the Nintendo DS should be wary towards the iPhone and its new high-profile games, but Nintendo's CEO Satoru Iwata begs to differ, saying that the Apple handheld does not pose a threat to the best-selling Nintendo DS. E3 2008 Updates - Image 1The PSP is solid. No need to worry about the ongoing competition between it and the DS, and never mind that Apple's iPhone has joined in the ruckus. They've got big plans up ahead, and really, it's not them who's got to be losing sleep over this. So says Koller, and more. Check it out at the full article.
