Lucasarts: No new games at E3 due to The Force is not strong at E3 this year, as LucasArts has decided not to announce any new games during the event because of "too much noise" surrounding it. LucasArts and BioWare partner for new game project - Image 1

LucasArts and Bioware Corp. have sent word that they have entered an agreement to create what appears to be a new game. No further details were announced, although the two promised that more information for this new product will be released in the near future. LucasArts president Jim Ward had this to say regarding the partnership:

LucasArts has a deep commitment to developing compelling stories and characters for the unique medium of interactive entertainment, and we have been searching for a developer that shares this value. We found this in BioWare. Through our previous collaborations, we know that BioWare has an impressive ability to blend gripping stories with technological advancements, and we believe that our upcoming product will deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment.

We know what you're thinking (nope, we ain't Jedi) - could this new project possibly be the Star Wars MMORPG that BioWare's been rumored to be working on as far back as last year? It's a little too early to tell at this point, but given that the original Star Wars Galaxies MMORPG (developer by Sony Online Entertainment) has been struggling lately due to its past updates, we imagine this news leaves the longtime fans with a sense of new hope (pardon the pun).

On the other hand, we could also be looking at a new non-online RPG, hopefully within the lines of a KOTOR sequel. It might be a little redundant, though, given that LucaArts is already working on Star Wars: The Force unleashed for the Sony PSP, Sony PS3, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360. We'll let you know when the pair releases more info.

A ton of info - enough to make an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer crash into a planet of small, furry animals - is coming for you in this series of developer interview videos concerning Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. We get you the lowdown on what's to expect from the highly-anticipated title that promises to give players the ultimate Jedi experience.

The first two videos are two halves of a panel interview, with the host drilling the big personalities behind the game about what sort of game it's actually going to be, the platforms it's going to come out on, what's the deal with lightsaber nightsticks - that sort of thing.

One big question that popped up during the second half is about the game's multiplayer capabilities, specifically if it was going to have one or not. Unfortunately, the interviewees were a tad bit snippy with answering that, but the good news is that they didn't shoot it down completely.

The third video is a one-on-one interview with the Project Lead of the whole game, Haden Blackman, and in it we learn just what they've done with the force for the game to stand out and merit the "Unleashed" title. While Kyle Katarn of the Jedi Outcast games used the Force more as a tool to get through obstacles, the main character in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed wields the Force pretty much like one would wield a nuke: total domination and destruction of your opponents.

When asked once more about the game's multiplayer capabilities, Haden went ahead and confirmed the multiplayer aspect of the game - so good news for those of us wondering if we'll be able to tear it up online with the Force. And with the in-game visuals (if the gameplay bits are anything to go by) looking sharp and sweet as they are, the game's Spring 2008 release date can't come any sooner.

Updates as we get them! In the meantime, enjoy the videos.

Recent offerings of the Star Wars games where you could play as one of the game's lightsaber-wielding warriors, the Jedi, never really captured the awesomeness of being someone who could kill a yak from a distance with mind bullets. Sure, there was the lightsaber-twirling, the force-choking, pushing and pulling things with the power of thought alone - but you never really got to pull off what the Jedi in the movies can do with impunity.

The upcoming next-gen title bearing the space opera's name, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, DS) could be the answer to all our Jedi needs. In this video, entitled Unleashing The Force: Part 1, we see just what direction the Jedi games are going, and it's a direction that's been a long time coming. Promising to give players the ultimate Jedi experience, this could be the killer app we've been waiting for - at least, when the Star Wars license is concerned.

We won't spoil the entirety of the video for you, because frankly, it needs to be watched. If you're a Star Wars fan, or if you even remotely like the idea of cutting people up with a lightsaber, then watch this. You will not be disappointed.

LucasArts' Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Image 1

In a recent announcement by LucasArts, it seems that their Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will not be making it's expected release date this November (when they first announced this release, it was to be released in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of Star Wars this year, but apparently that's not the case anymore).

The question "Why, LucasArts, why?" is reportedly being screamed by fans of the series everywhere. However, to date, LucasArts has yet to give details on why they have decided to delay the release.

The game takes place between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope" with the player controlling Darth Vader's apprentice. You will have to hunt out the remaining Jedi throughout the universe. Judging from the videos, the game will be featuring awesome force powers ranging from simply knocking opponents back, to actually grabbing debris to fling at an incoming TIE fighter.

The game is now slated for release on the PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, PSP, and DS in spring 2008. How this delay will affect sales of the game is still unknown, although a lot fanboys and fangirls have maintained their resolve to pick up a copy of the game.
