North American gamers are in for a classic-filled fun this coming Q1 of 2008 after Marvelous and Ignition Entertainment reached an agreement to bring upcoming DS titles Bubble Bobble Revolution and New Zealand Revolution Story as well as PSP game Rainbow Islands Revolution to North America. The said DS video games are actually remakes of the original with upgraded graphics and a few level additions. Rainbow Islands Revolution for the PSP, furthermore, is a new entry in the Bubble Bobble franchise. Marvelous owns the rights to these titles and the North American versions will be published by Ignition. "These games have such classic arcade appeal you will be looking for the slot to put your quarter. They are iconic classics that every DS and PSP system owner must have and we are honored to partner with Marvelous to bring them to North America," commented Ignition USA President Ajay Chadha. |

Ignition Entertainment puts a new twist in the term "old school." In a recent announcement, the long time publisher of interactive software has teamed up with Marvelous Interactive in a long-term partnership which aims to bring many of its Japanese cult classic arcade games to locals here in North America. Ignition is aiming to bring back some of the old time favorites a lot of newer gamers have yet to experience. Many old timers (you can include me in that list, sad to say) will remember gaming classics like Bubble Bobble, New Zealand Story and Rainbow Islands when they first came out on their respective consoles providing them with lots of arcade action for hours on end. Soon, you'll be able to catch all of them in their newest incarnations for the next gen handhelds. Everyone can expect to see Bubble Bobble Double Shot and New Zealand Story Revolution on the Nintendo DS, while you can catch Rainbow Islands Evolution on the Sony PlayStation Portable. All three games will be an exact port in terms of story content and gameplay, however you'll be blown away with some of the new upgrades all three games will be coming out with when they finally hit video game shelves. In any case, it's nice to know that Ignition is still willing to reintroduce games which would otherwise have fallen into the cracks of gaming obscurity. Hopefully, we'll all be seeing these titles soon enough on handhelds everywhere. |

Ignition Entertainment has announced that George of the Jungle
will soon be hitting Europe. This side-scrolling platformer based on
the popular Jay Ward classic will be available for the PlayStation 2,
Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS video game consoles.
In George of the Jungle, players swing, run, jump, climb and charge their way through the Jungle, collecting bonus items and overcoming an assortment of obstacles along the way. A lot of characters from the old Jay Ward series also make an appearance, including Ursula, Magnolia, Dr. Scott, the Witch Doctor, Shep and of course Ape. George of the Jungle will be released in Europe in Q1 2008. That's still a long way off, so check out these screenshots of the Wii and DS versions in the meantime. The creation of games publisher Detn8 Games Ltd. was recently announced, and spearheading this venture are the two video game industry veterans Ellen Fuog and Jeff Hill. What makes this different from other publishing companies? Well, for one thing, the two heads of the company have 52 years of experience between them, thus giving this company an edge. So who are these two veterans, exactly? Ellen Fuog has 28 years experience in the video game industry. She founded and served as president of UK-based Ignition Entertainment’s US operation from 2002 until 2006, and was also president (and founder) of AIA USA. On top of that, she also served as the vice president of sales and marketing for Jaleco USA, and the vice president of sales and marketing for Kaneko Entertainment. Before that, she held the vice presidency of sales and marketing for WICO, a joystick and peripheral manufacturer. She also started up her own sales rep company, Ellen Fuog Associates. Meanwhile, Jeff Hill has been in the video game industry for 23 years. Starting in the video game business as a tester for Mindscape in 1984, he started and operated his own company, Black Sheep, Inc., since 1994. He was also the product development director for Kaneko Entertainment and Jaleco USA. Detn8 has already acquired an all-platform licensee status with Nintendo and SCEA and is scheduled to publish its first release in June, 2007. We will have to wait and see whether the experience of both owners will be enough to bring this company to greatness. |

SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS, the game that pits legendary (and some less famous) characters from SNK and Capcom has been released in Europe. The latest edition of the Card Battle Tournament features over 300 all-new collectible cards. Each one carries varying hit points and special abilities based on the SNK or Capcom character. "SNK's card battling series has been updated for a new generation of gamers" according to Ignition Entertainment. "Mixing characters from two of the arcades biggest names only adds to what is a truly fun and exciting game of tactics and skill." But SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS isn't all adversarial. Got duplicate cards? No prob! The game allows trading by using the Recycle machine or stop by the shops to get new cards. |

CVG was constrained to interrogate Ignition Studios manager Ed Bradley when they discovered that a Mercury Meltdown occurred on the Wii, to make sure that all necessary measures will be undertaken for potential future versions. In particular, they harshly interrogated Mr. Bradley about the potential for a Mercury Meltdown in the DS. (Hey, this isn't Three Mile, this is a fun puzzler! Time to ditch the hostile Congressional panel...).To which Bradley replied, "The DS version has yet to proceed past the 'hey, wouldn't it be cool if...' stage." So right now a DS Meltdown is only at the "consideration" stage. Even then he'd like to keep any nifty ideas (other than "use the touch screen, of course") under wraps, the spoilsport. (Maybe the hostile Congressional panel would have been useful, after all). Back to the Meltdown on the Wii. Obviously the game takes advantage of the Wiimote motion-sensing function to deliver the experience. There's another feature worth mentioning: online. It might seem that there's a lack of support, since nothing's been mentioned about WiiConnect24, but Ed reveals that the game engine "supports downloadable levels", so there's no reason they can't feature that in future versions. Are we talking about a patch update to the game, or a sequel here, Mr. Bradley? Or do we have to break out the hostile Honorable Representative from Podunk? Kidding. When CVG asked about the potential for a sequel, Ed enthusiastically replied: Sequels are always a possibility. If players want to play Mercury we'll certainly keep giving them more. We are one of those rare breed of developers who worked on the GameCube and we have a great relationship with NOE so I see no reason why we would stop supporting Nintendo's machines. Cool - maybe this does mean a DS Mercury Meltdown in the future! Congressional subcommittee on mercury meltdowns adjourned. |
