thumb - Image 1The PSP started the year with a bang, and then it quickly cooled off. The DS never really peaked, but a constant stream of gaming goodness flowed forth. Not really a banner year for either platform, but there were quite a few gems. Oh, and one game seems to have clobbered the rest into submission...

Nintendo DS - Image 1 ColorConvert is a really simple tool from BigBob85 - he says so himself. This DS brewed app converts the RGB color in four different formats. More information can be found after the jump.

panzer tactics 3

If you're a sucker for turn-based strategy games like Advance Wars, then you might want to check out CDV Software Entertainment's Panzer Tactics DS. To refresh your Panzer Tactics memory, this World War II-inspired strategy game is developed by Sproing and relies heavily on the strength of the DS console. Would-be commanders will lead their forces to victory or defeat in three single-player campaigns, or compete in multiplayer games via Nintendo-WiFi Connection or via wireless multiplayer.

The game's controls are rather simple. You can use the D-pad or you can simply drag a path for the units with your stylus. The double-screen set-up thankfully saves you from having to manage pulldowns or second screens in order to see all of the details regarding your unit and terrain. Simply click anywhere on the hex field, and the top screen opens an entire page packed with the data that you need. Multiplayer games will also offer a competitive ladder system in order to rank the best online commanders.

So without further much ado, here are more of the screenshots as we have promised:

etoolEZ4 version of ETool 3.13 has been updated by its developer, Cory1492, to ETool v3.13(b). The previous version features the following:
  • Added Mario Kart to the ID process
  • Added a PC side ETool SRAM save creator for compressed saves
  • Added an ALT version with a fix for 2mbit FLASH chips
  • Revised the PC side extractor to work right with the creator, it no longer buffs the file to 256Kbytes
The latest version now uses a 64K .sav file. It has a hand-patched header to make it write it out so 2mbit size games can be compressed to under 64K.

Meanwhile, the multitasking Cory 1942 is currently working on another project, the DSBook. His to-do list includes porting the ASCII version of DSBook to use UTF-8 or Chinese fonts. Part of the new font he has already created includes a text-based font layout builder. Eventually, it will be able to show anything that can be represented by single byte hex (maybe even half glyphs). But he's still grappling with some memory issues. But the DSBooK update will come for sure, just you wait.
