Those interested with the evolution of gaming may want to install homebrew developer ETk's Chip 8 emulator for the Nintendo DS, Chip8me (previous release here). Created to make video games easily programmable to certain computers, Chip 8 certainly is a piece of gaming history worth looking back on. This particular release now sports some improvements, such as directory support, debug fixes, and SCHIP support.Download: Chip8me v1.0 |

It's been quite a while since ETk last updated his DS homebrew game MegaETk (four months in fact), but thank goodness for the holiday break from school, he's now back with v1.03. Hailed as one of the best DS homebrew games ever, MegaETk v1.03 packs in a lot of fixes and changes. And of course, he's also thrown in a bunch of new stuff to further improve the already kickass game he developed. As you can see from the screenshot on the right, this is one brew that could potentially kick retail games' asses that's why we think it's definitely deserving to be placed right up there on the list of awesome DS brews. So, what's changed in v1.03? Changelog:

It's only been a few days from the first release (non-beta) of MegaETK by ETk and he has already updated his game twice. We did not cover the first update, but we will cover this update that will list all the changes from the original release to the most current one. MegaETk is such a well polished and amazing game that when I showed it to a few friends, they thought it was a retail game. The second I told them it wasn't, they were speechless. MegaETk is indeed one of the best NDS games. Although it may not be very original being a clone of Megaman, it makes up for it in its original features, weapons, level concepts and overall presentation. If you haven't tried this game out yet, I suggest you do even if you do not have a NDS (PC emulators). See the full change log (including the previous release) below -

Several months ago, ETk released his first public beta of his popular Megaman clone called MegaETk. This game has been in product for several months before the first public beta, and today has been the day in which the game has been released in its full form. ETk released MegaETk in the NeoFlash Summer Coding Competition (2006) and faces some tough competition amongst several other A++ homebrew games. MegaETk is a Megaman clone featuring all you could ever wish for in a homebrew game! You must help MegaETk take back Earth from the dreaded invasion of 4 monsters and their minions. As MegaETk, you will defeat several unique monsters with some very unique weapons! The overall level design is perfect, the presentation of the game is of retail-quality, and I'm just left speechless as I play this flawless game! So, want to see how this game matches up to all the hype - then download below! Note: If you do not own a NDS, you can always play on the PC emulator - DeSmuME! Download: [MegaETk] |

MegaETk is a homebrew game for the Nintendo DS. Based on the popular Megaman series of games, MegaETk's most interesting feature is its capability to let players play in levels that they themselves created.
ETk reports that the game menu for MegaETk is almost done. The first boss has also been added, but there's still no HP bar as of now. Here's the list of updates: -Added: Game menu to select level, check hero status, etc.. -Added: Boss loader, etc.. all functions to play with a boss and move it -Removed: level complete screen, it will go directly to shop now -Fix: Hero's arm now blinks when hero does. -Fix: Fixed collision with max X on map. -Fix: Fixed arm position when using the stylus and moving to the wrong way.. -Fix: Sprites animations are paused when pausing the game. -Most important Fix: After adding the level select menu. The game was running at very slow fps (3-6), after 1 hour I fixed that (phew..) optimizing and removing unneeded code :) -Added: First step to save data. Time for a screenshot. ETk says to ignore the door. It shouldn't be there.

ETk has released a list of the updates he has made to the upcoming version of MegaETk, a game based on the Megaman games. This game's really interesting because of the custom-level creation features included in the game that will allow you to play in levels that you create yourself. The developer fixed more bugs than added features. That said, though, he's included a new bubble effect and a "level complete screen." Here's a complete list of the changes he made to MegaETk:

The game has been in production for several months now, and it is looking better and better each day! There was an early version of the game released to the public and showed how great the game was. I was blown away by how smooth the gameplay was, and even enjoyed it using DeSmuMe (NDS emulator) on my PC. So, now you are wondering what has been changed in the game, well here are the changes as told by ETk himself –
