QuickJump QuickList - Image 1

Admit it, playing as a pansy would suck even if it was the best video game ever made. That isn't to say having some random well-built guy with a deep voice on screen is enough to make a game fun. In fact, we've seen so many pitiful attempts of trying to make "cool" characters that it's not even funny anymore.

Fortunately, there's a handful of really manly video game dudes out there that aren't just made of testosterone and big muscles - they also have the history, personality, and attitude to be considered men among men. In this list are the most epic piles of manly turned video game characters. Are you man enough to take it?

10. Ryo Hazuki - Being manly doesn't mean you have to be some barbaric dude with an axe and a loud voice. As they say, the deep waters are more silent. Ryo Hazuki sounds and acts like your typical quiet guy, but fans of Shenmue know what lies beneath. He's not a womanizer or a jock. In fact, he ditched his cute lover, plays with kittens, and drives forklifts. What makes him so manly, then?

Even while facing potentially the strongest organized crime group in China, Ryo is deadset on facing Chiyoumen's leader, Lan Di, to avenge his father. Just like a man with strong convictions, this guy fresh out of high school has left worldy matters behind to do whatever it takes just to get closer to the fiend that killed his dad.

Click on for the rest of list, in which we ooze machismo and hose the decks down with testosterone. RAWR!

Spore delayed - Image 1

The reason why Electronic Arts will miss its estimated profits for this fiscal year? Well other than the wider quarterly loss, it's because an anticipated game won't be coming out, at least not until this current fiscal year ends by March 2008. The anticipated game that is delayed? Spore.

A Reuters report notes that EA has said that it was no longer counting on revenue from Spore for this fiscal year. What's worse is that EA adds that the game could be delayed until fiscal 2009.

A lot of hopeful folks are now screaming "NOOOO..." A lot of the more cynical ones are making jokes about the game being bundled with Duke Nukem Forever.

So sad, this is.

Duke3DS - Image 1 Duke3DS - Image 2 Duke3DS - Image 3

Another entrant into the NeoFlash Spring Coding Competition, GPF's Duke3Ds is a port of Duke Nukem 3D port from GP2X. Amazing how the ports come so much sooner than Duke Nukem Forever, which is still taking forever and a day to make.

There's some technical stuff you need to consider closely though, so listen up. Here's what GPF mentioned on his post to NeoFlash:

DLDI patch .nds and copy it and defs.con, game.con, user.con, duke3d.grp and supplied duke3d.cfg to /duke3d directory of card. Might be case sensitive with Uppercase. It still needs sound added and network support, but is playable with your own provided shareware .grp or full version .grp file.

As for the directions, we've got them below. Feel free to check out the rest of the happening on it direct from GPF's site, which we'll be using as a primary source. Enjoy!

Directions:
  • d-pad - move Duke
  • a - fire
  • b - jump
  • x - look up
  • y - look down
  • left trigger - strafe left
  • right trigger - strafe right
  • select - use item
  • start - select
  • touchscreen - look around, change weapon
