Donkye Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble - Image 1Here's a nice treat for the DKC fans - from the massive melting pot that is YouTube comes two music mash-ups featuring the music from Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3. What's interesting here is that some music across those two titles are actually very similar, and even DKC fans would appreciate the seemless transition between the tracks. Grab your headphones or turn up your speakers - this one's gonna take you back to the good ol' days.

On Shelves This Week - Image 1While this week's crop of new games doesn't really scream "Triple-A", it is noteworthy for having Patapon 2, the vanguard/forward scout for Sony's foray into digital distribution for the PlayStation Portable. Other picks this week include the release of the Wii version of Namco's PlayStation original, Klonoa. PC gamers also get a one-two-three punch from Crytek and EA with the compilation, CrysisCrysis: Maximum Edition. Read on for the rest of this week's video game releases.

Gameboy Color square - Image 1It's always good to see old projects getting picked up again just when we thought they're completely forgotten by their respective homebrew developers. In this case, Nukti resumed working on Gameboy Color emulator Lameboy, after an almost year-long hiatus. More details and changelog in the full article.

Capcom - Image 1Osaka-based publisher Capcom has released its financial report card for 2007's third fiscal quarter. While a lot of people expected a surge in correlation with the holiday rush, what we saw was a mixed bag at best. Devil May Cry 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC) and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles enjoyed good sales, but other titles weren't so lucky. Full details after the jump.

Super Smash Bros Brawl - Image 1Good news Brawlers! The much-awaited action title Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii will finally be playable in the upcoming E for All event, to be held in LA Convention Center from October 18 to 21. At long last (and after numerous updates), fans will now be able to experience the action first-hand.

That's not all. Among other demos, Super Mario Galaxy will also be playable in this year's E for All, making it a not-to-be-missed gaming event.

Nintendo will also host a Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament every day of the exhibit, where ALL competitors will get a Wii T-shirt. Different shirts will be given away each day, so if there's no limit as to how many tournaments you can join, you might as well go crazy and drop by every day to join in on the Brawling fun.

Now we have one demo that's confirmed to be playable, and we hope Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will follow suit as well. If not, at least we still have Snake in Brawl.

SD Gundam G Generation Cross Drive - Image 1Another DS game has scored the the top spot in top sales. For the week ending on August 12 SD Gundam G Generation: Cross Drive sold close to 138,000 units in Japan. It's not Ace Attorney 4's 250,000 but that's still a huge number.

Only one PS3 and PSP game managed to make it to Japan's top 10: Minna no Golf 5 is at 6th place while Wild ARMs: Crossfire is at 7th. Two PlayStation 2 games made it too. Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System is on 3rd place and J-League Winning Eleven 2007: Club Championship is on 5th.

The rest of the chart is dominated by Japan's own Nintendo consoles, the Wii and the DS which both sports three games each at the list. Mario Party 8 (2nd,) Wii Sports (8th) and Hajimete no Wii (10th) made it for the Wii and Gundam, Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber (4th) and Zelda no Densetsu: Mugen no Sunadokei (5th) made it for the DS.

Besides racing around in a racetrack, beating up other Nintendo franchise characters and banging on his bongos, here's the big bad brown DK himself doing something that we've probably never seen him do for a long time: climb stuff. Monkeys do it, baboons do it, we're guessing gorillas do it too - and DK's a master at it, as you'll see in this gameplay video of Nintendo's DK Jungle Climber for the Nintendo DS.

In this video, we see the game in action, and while it's no Donkey Kong Country, it certainly has that flavor - and the climbing aspect of it is done pretty well, despite looking just a bit weird. Particularly the bit with DK using his climbing skills to turn a wheel in order to reach new heights - it's quite clever, and shows off the game's mechanics pretty nicely.

Even in our parents' generation, Nintendo was already wowing people with ingenious inventions and toys that captured the hearts of children and parents alike. This documentary features the Nintendo Museum in Osaka's Hankyu Department store and showcased privately-owned Nintendo merchandise, most of which were decades old.

The documentary shows toys that were already unusual in its time: an Electronic Love Tester, an extending arm used to play pranks on other people, a lion's head for shooting practice, a "Light Telephone" (how it works is still beyond us), and some normal looking items such as playing cards.

Nintendo Company Ltd.'s video game history was also brought into attention. It turned out that it had the Nintendo Disk System (NDS) exclusively for the Japanese NES, Nintendo's 8-bit console. Basically, the NDS is a NES peripheral that plays NES games stored in floppy disks. Once a person cleared or finished the game, all he had to do was to bring the floppy disk to a toy store equipped with an NDS disk writer so he could get a new game for only 500 yen.

The NDS rocked the most, not because it let people use and reuse floppy disks for different games, nor because it let people purchase games for a mere pittance; but because the NDS game writer played a tune whenever it wrote games into a floppy. We would love to own a singing DVD writer, ourselves.

There are lots of things to discover about Nintendo in this video, so watch the whole clip and find yourselves walking down Memory Lane.

In Nintendo Short Cuts Showcase, misled entries have no chance of entering the Top 10 as finalists. We're talking cream of the crop - the best short films out of probably thousands that took a shot. One particular entry caught our eyes, and it's about Nintendo workers trying to survive in the office full of Ninty characters.

Imagine taking a dump in fear that a fly trap from Mario would bite you, or having to dodge fireballs to get into sir Bowser's office; this is what the video is all about. Add humorous scenes like Link talking about menial tasks (in a very rough voice) or Donkey Kong whining about his missing potato, and you've got something any Nintendo fan would love.

Let's skip the spoilers and just get on with it, video's embedded below.
