"Consumers are back out spending again." That's what Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn said as he described his anticipation for the forthcoming holidays. Even with the economy going the way it is, the industry seems to have won them over, getting them to spend on their toys again. More after the jump.

"Price cut" seems like the console mantra for months now, putting the pressure on major players in the industry to take a bit off their hardware price to stay competitive. Nintendo, so it seems, remains adamant about not lowering the Wii price, despite five months of sales decline, possibly going six. If Nintendo won't, then the retailers may be taking matters into their own hands, with rumors of price cuts surfacing anew.

Rumor confirmed guys. The cheap ass informant at Cheap Ass Gamer called it right - Best Buy is indeed holding a big sale, where selected items will be sold for only US$ 9.99. Best part is, it's tomorrow, April 26th!

If you think ten bucks can only go as far as downloading little games online, think again. Best Buy lives up to its name by holding a major markdown sale of over 50 titles for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, and even the PS2, putting games at a must-get price of only US$ 9.99 - or so rumors say. Activision has finally announced the official release date of the newest title for the webbed one. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, DS, Wii, PSP, and PC) is coming out next month, and there's even a tie-in promo with Best Buy for some cool collectibles.

Video games and consoles aren't games. At least, Best Buy doesn't think so. A customer recently tried to use a "toy" coupon to purchase an Xbox 360 and two games for the console, but according to Best Buy employees (and their corporate office), the items aren't categorized under "toys." Earlier this week, controversial anti-video game attorney Jack Thompson announced that he will be filing a lawsuit against Best Buy on charges that the company sells M-rated games to minors through its website. Apparently, he's also named the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) in the lawsuit.

Here's a quote from a press release issued by Thompson, courtesy of GamePolitics:

The ESRB has been sued by Thompson because it is well known that it a) is owned and operated by the video game industry, b) does not even play the games it rates to conclusion, c) routinely mislabels games as to age appropriateness, per testimony before the U.S. Congress, and is engaged in representations to American parents that the age label are accurate and are keeping "Mature" games out of the hands of kids...

According to GamePolitics, Thompson also took a shot at the National Institute for Media and the Family (NIMF), a media watchdog group headed by psychologist Dr. David Walsh, who publicly distanced himself from Thompson's brand of anti-game advocacy two years ago. Thompson claims that the lawsuit details the relationship between the NIMF and Best Buy, which are both located in Minneapolis.
