NeoGeo AES - Image 1Fans of NeoGeo fighting games should definitely not miss out on the latest version of NeoDS v0.1.1, the NeoGeo AES/MVS emulator for the Nintendo DS (previous version here). What's new this time is the optional function to use Slot 2 ran as sprite cache (if available). Check out the changelog in the full article.

No$gba DS 2.5 emulator - Image 1It's been a very long time since we've heard from Martin, the German dev you guys may remember for creating the No$gba v2.3 programming tool for professional developers. In case you're wondering what martin's been up to, we're happy to report that he's recently finished work on No$gba v2.5.

As a point of clarification, this particular freeware release is for the gamer's version of the emulator. It will allow PC owners to run DS games on their computer. Take note, we strongly advise would-be users to view the included file readme for installation and usage instructions.

On a last note, if you happen to be a programmer, you may want to read up on the No$gba debug version that Martin's working on. That particular build - and No$gBA's full changelog -  can be read up on at the dev's main site, via the source link we provided for below.

Nintendo DS emulated on the PSP - Image 1We're already driving into the weekend, expecting to hit the usual slowdown on updates, however, recent developments in the QJ forums (thanks for the tip, Glynnder!) have made us think that this is probably one of the homebrew community's most intense weeks in a long time. The OE source code, Team Wildcard's 3.40 LE CFW, Dark AleX actively talking to Sony, and now... a Nintendo DS Emulator on the PSP.

For all intents and purposes though, and right off the bat, we'd have to say that we can't host the download. One of the main reasons is that the emulator taps into the BIOS - thus leading to its illegality - and the second reason being its infantile stage. We hear the emulator isn't working all that perfect; running games ends up in lock ups and glitches.

So right now, we'd just have to report about its existence, and for the sake of discussion, talk about the implications. One of the biggest hurdles here, of course, is that, how would a DS emulator work without the DS' biggest features: the touchscreen? The experience of getting to play the real Nintendo DS will be watered down in an emulated Nintendo DS on the PSP, but see, isn't that what emulators are defined as?

We know you have a lot of questions, proclamations, and out bursts of joy. So we'll leave you with two options: 1) you may comment below, or 2) proceed to the forum thread for an in-depth discussion. However. Please bear in mind that we will not tolerate any links, information, or other details on where or how to get ROMs and illegal files.

Many thanks to Glynnder for sending in the tip!

DS Simply (M3)

The M3 team previously announced that they were busy working on a slot-1 solution several months ago, and in the past week we have received more information about the product, possible price and a nice picture of the cart! The DS-Xtreme took the DS scene by storm as it provided a reliable, all-in-one product for the DS. However, the M3 team was not far behind as they too were working on a new device. This one looks to be the most promising of their devices, and might just be the greatest slot-1 device to date.

The most shocking news that accompanies the announcement is the previous announcement of a price of $ 25.00! Previous devices (including their passcard 3) were above $ 30.00. This seems a little too good to be true, so please take this with a grain of salt if you will. However, no matter what the price - you are getting a lot for your money.
  • The same size as an original DS cart
  • Build in PassMe (No Need for boot card or anything else to boot )
  • Using Micro SD card (Trans Flash) as external storage. Cheap & variety (?)

Logo2

iDeaS, the DS emulator for the PC, has just been updated to v1.0.0.6. Another huge update from the iDeaS team, here are the changes:

  • Added Video, Audio and 3D Plugin System (VERY primitive, ask before developing anything!)
  • Corrected some DSP ARM9 errors
  • Added swi9 in ARM9 BIOS
  • Corrected some errors in extended palettes' management
  • Corrected an error in sprite drawing routines
  • Corrected some errors in Mode 3, 4, 5
  • Added Texture Modes 3, 4, 5
  • Corrected some errors in 3D FiFo management
  • Optimized texture management
  • Bug Fixes in TouchScreen management
  • Bug fixes in firmware emulation

Note that the newest Touchscreen code has been not implemented, as it messed up big time. Gotta wait some more time, pals... as usual, read the included readme for further details.

 Dsemu328942389

A new version of the DS Emulator for the PC (originally by Imran Nazar) has been released by Chris Double (with source). Changes include:

  • A more correct ARM9 bios interrupt routine is used, avoiding the hack that I put in place previously where one of the registers loads was hard coded in the ARM9 evaluator.
  • The interrupt waiting SWI routine was using an incorrect register so the return from the wait was not reliable.
  • Bugs related to switching between ARM and Thumb mode, and restoration of the spsr from the cpsr at the end of an interrupt were fixed.
  • The interrupt handler expected the handler to be ARM code not Thumb code. The libnds handler is in Thumb so fixed code that was previously there but not working to execute Thumb code if the code is indeed thumb.
  • Implemented some of the ARM9 Coprocessor instructions for DTCM and ITCM handling (specifically registers 6 and 9).

You can get it in our Nintendo DS Download section here.
