You'd think the Wiimote would be the ultimate controller for shooters, but having to switch between the D-pad and the A button every time you change weapons just makes for clunky gameplay. The solution? Slap a track ball on the A button! And that's just what AcidMods did. Check out a vid of their latest mod after the link. Another thanks to Mark for the tip off! |

Over at Acidmods, there's a new mod making the rounds and looking pretty cool while doing so. It's called the DS Lite Sound Reactive Mod, and it's made by Rocky.
The sound reactive mod basically allows the DS to light up in time with any sound your DS is currently playing. It requires some soldering and a handy knowledge of amp chips and LEDs, so it's definitely not for beginners. Still, this modification would work wonders with a run of Elite Beat Agents. It's still in development stages though, but there's already a tutorial up for those who want to learn. You can find it at the Read link, as well as view a demonstration of the mod below. |

Let's see: PSP-styled digital nubs on a DS, PS2 sticks on a PSP (heck the only thing missing is plugging the Xbox 360 guide button into either and we've got ourselves a three-way haxfest... er, forget I said that). And grandpasmurf of AcidMODS informs us of more cross-pollination going on in the control department. This time, he's plugging in a couple of motion sensors/accelerometers onto the DS and PSP so that they can be played like a SIXAXIS.
Yes, SIXAXIS. For those of you who want a Wiimote, find an IR sensor and bar to include in the package. The demo unit is a DS Lite, but you will note that it plugs through a mini-USB port, so grandpasmurf says it can definitely be used with the PSP, too. Absent of any other details from grandpasmurf - hey, pay us a visit and drop us the 411, if you can - we can speculate that the said mini-USB port wires to the D-pad, similar to the Ghetto Joystik/Ben Heck PSP analog mods. Other than that, well, we can offer little else in the way of detail. Like we said: grandpasmurf, anytime you want to drop a line, our Comments section is always open. And one other thing: we wonder if this means we've got some Wiidiots who're about to turn the DS (or the PSP) into Flying Game Controllers of Doom (TM). Oh noes. Besides grandpasmurf, thanks also to luke for the heads-up! Now heads down! Flying handheld incoming! |

How would you like to not use your DS' d-pads, and instead just use a directional nub? It seems workable enough. After all, Acidmods.com was able to make it work. Like the one in video shown above. Yup, if you'll look close enough in the video posted by grandpasmurf over at YouTube, you'd see that the d-pad had been disabled. In its place lies a digital nub, which acts as a joystick of some kind to get you through your DS navigations. From the looks of things, it makes moving around in the game easier. Also, check out that cool button mod with blue LEDs. Sometimes, I can't help but wonder what's the point of tinkering with the final product. Then again, if you can pimp your car, why not your DS, right? Besides, it doesn't hurt to look cooler, and at the same time remain functional. |

Since time immemorial, man has always been known to have this compulsion to just mark something as his own by customizing it according to his needs and preferences. That carries over until now, especially in this modern age when we have all these nifty, shiny toys to play with. Hence, mods were born.
Anyway, our featured mod today is one that was mailed in to us by Grandpasmurf. Using a tutorial that he found over at AcidMods, he placed blue LED in the buttons of his DS Lite, and replaced the buttons themselves with more transparent ones. We have to admit that the effect's VERY interesting. He put together a short clip to show that the mod works perfectly, so take a look and see if it inspires you to make something like it. Do tell us if you do! |
