StelladsTheChuckster has updated his StellaDS Atari 2600 emulator for the Nintendo DS.

I integrated chism's FAT file I/O library into StellaDS to add the much needed support for high capacity flash memory devices. Create a directory called stellads in the root directory of your device and stash all of your ROMs in there. No need to recompile to get new ROMs! The buggy, awkward GBFS approach is no longer in use. Also, the menu now supports a near-infinite amount of ROMs thanks to the wonders of std::vector. Scrolling beyond the list works now as well. Directory traversal has not yet been implemented, however, so don't try selecting the dotted file names at the beginning of the list.

Included in the StellaDS download is a sample stellads ROM directory that you can copy onto your memory card to try out some free, public-domain Atari 2600 ROMs. Report any bugs to me via e-mail or on the forum, and have fun playing Adventure on your DS once again!

doublec has released a new version of DSEmu, version 0.4.10. DSEmu is an open source Nintendo DS Emulator, originally written and released by Imran Nazar under the BSD license. This program allows a user to test and debug homebrew code without having to constantly transfer the freshly compiled code to your NDS. Changes in this release include:

- Sprite support fixed. Homebrew demos with sprites should now start to work.
- Support for some 8 bit graphics modes with palletes.
- Fixed crash that occurred occasionally in mode 5 rendering.
- Workaround for a thumb emulation bug that occurs with devkitpro r17 compiled programs (to be fixed properly in 0.4.11).

Google Video has a new Metriod Prime: Hunters commercial posted up. Based on the stunning 3D revision of the Metroid series by Retro Studios, Hunters features first-person action controlled largely with the DS stylus. The game also features multiplayer gameplay. Multiple control schemes take full advantage of the touch screen, giving all gamers an ideal way to play. The top screen displays the main game action in 3D, while the bottom screen doubles as a map and as a control "mouse pad" for the stylus. Nintendo has put out some new screenshots for their upcoming DS title, Brain Age. Brain Age presents players with a series of fun mental brain-training challenges that incorporate word memorization, counting and reading. It even includes sudoku number puzzles, which have become extremely popular features in newspapers around the country.

The distinctive touch screen of Nintendo DS lets users write their responses, just as though they were using a PDA. Players even turn the Nintendo DS sideways to make it feel more familiar, like a book. The more often users challenge themselves, the better they become at the tasks and the lower their estimated DS "brain age."

Nintendo has finally put out the full fact sheet for their upcoming Nintendo DS platformer, Super Princess Peach. The fact sheet goes into a little more detail on various aspects of the game, including a breif storyline layout, characters and special moves. Super Princess Peach is due to be released early next week, so hopefully this will help you to decide if this game is for you! Read the full fact sheet at the link below.

Bowser's up to no good again, but this time it's Peach to the rescue.

  • Bowser's finally gotten wise and kidnapped Mario, figuring that since he's the guy who normally does the rescuing, no one will be around to rescue him. He's in for a big surprise, though, because Peach is armed (with a parasol) and dangerous.
  • Besides whacking Bowser's minions with her parasol, Peach can channel emotional vibes into special abilities: floating through the air when she's happy, burning through bridges when she's mad or making vegetation grow with her tears.
  • Join the princess as she runs, jumps, floats and fights her way through eight worlds to where Mario's being held.
