Ó

There are many gadgets being unveiled at this year's International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, but the one that we (and Nintendo) should all be keeping a close eye on is the iRiver G10. New pictures and specifications about this device were released today, sporting many features that might make the DS start shakin' in its boots... or whatever your Nintendo DS uses for footware. Here's a look:
  • Windows Mobile 5 Operating System
  • 4 and 8 Gigabytes of storage space
  • 3D Graphics Rendering
  • WVGA Screen w/800x400 Resolution
  • WiBro Support (Wireless Broadband, faster than standard WiFi)

I really dislike the way those buttons are, DS has em beat on that point at least.

Pocket PCs of any sort suffer horribly from miserably sub-par software. Unless the big names (SEGA, EA, RockStar, etc) get on board to support this thing, it will just be another piece of nice-but-useless tech.

That being said, this device is more of a threat to the PSP than the DS. After all, Windows Mobile means that emulators and all kinds of other software that PSP users have to jump through hoops to use will be useable right out of the box, plus multimedia (divx, mp3, etc).

this is just another handheld that people will know as one of those "other" systems

DS and PSP will probably see no threat to this , but PSP may see it as a threat if the games are good

I think it depends on whether this thing has a touch screen or not for it to pose a threat to the DS. And even if it did it would need good third party software, you won't find anything as good as Mario Kart or Animal Crossing on it at launch I would imagine.

I would be more interested in this system for homebrew, emulation and movies that original games. Even if this system is the best ever it won't take out Nintendo.

this device is pretty much a PSP mixed with a DS. It has touch screen i assume (a pda without a touch screen isnt a pda....) and it should have a mic for voice record. (almost all my pda's have voice record, except for 2)
And yes, this is already hackable. As i already have SNES, PS1, GBA, genesis etc emulators installed on my SD card. (assuming this thing uses SD)

Nintendo will still come out on top in the portable market, the psp sure as hell didn't move it from it's throne.

sony and nintendo can afford 100 losses on the sale of each console. along with parterships and high profile company names such as sony and nintendo they must get discounts (lol). then there is IRIVER i dont doubt this thing will cost no less than 500 bucks.

Most tis thing will get is a cult following like GP32X or whatever or it will be another tapwave

Thats what the PSP tried to do, and even then it barely managed to shake Nintendo Irongrip of pwnage on the handheld market.

We need to coin a phrase for handhelds like the Gizmodo, Tapwave and this piece of shizzle.

This thing makes the PSP look like an indestructable James Bond gadget.

DS AND PSP SAY: BRING IT ON!!!
this thing wont scratch neither the psp or the ds surfaces you can be sure of that and look at the idiot hes pressing the back button in a car race??? who the hell does that???
