Look, up in the sky! Is it a bird, a plane, or a geek wearing his underwear over his tights? Nope, it's a purple dinosaur dragon! Yes, Spyro looks like he's going to follow down Cloud Strife and Claire Redfield's footsteps: from video games straight to their own CGI movie. Today, a teaser poster for The Legend of Spyro 3D movie has been revealed. Check out the full article for the poster and some more info.

Following the trend of other video games going to the big screen (such as Castlevania), Sierra Entertainment's diminutive purple dragon Spyro may be hitting the movies as well.

Variety has recently reported that The Animation Pictures Co. managed to get the rights to create a Spyro 3D animation film based on the Spyro game franchise, similar to the likes of currently popular CGI animation movies such as Shrek.

The planned Spyro movie will get a top-notch movie treatment, with Dr. Doolittle's Steve and Dan Altiere as script writers. As for voice actors, considering that the game already had a high profile cast (such as Elijah Wood and Gary Oldman), it's not a far-fetched guess that the movie will have the same star-studded voice cast.

The director is yet to be hired and the release date yet to be revealed, but you can be sure that we'll keep you posted. More updates to come!

While The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning is the latest title from the Spyro the Dragon series, it is actually a prequel that tells how Spyro's adventure got started.

The prequel features Ignitus, an orange dragon in charge of a solitary purple egg. After making a narrow escape from evil forces, Ignitus places the egg in a river which carries it downstream. The purple egg hatches and Spyro's out-of-the-shell adventures officially begins.

Spyro is adopted by a family of dragonflies and only realizes later that unlike the rest of his adopted family, he alone has dragon breath - the ability to breathe fire. Soon, Spyro leaves his home to find his roots. In his search he is reunited with Ignitus and learns of his true destiny. He alone can save the world from the evil force of the black dragon!

The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning focuses more on combat than the previous games and the E3 06 demo shows a more agile Spyro with different moves and abilities such as melee combos, aerial combos, and breath attacks. Due this month, The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning could re-ignite the franchise that seem to have lost its fire.
