The much-awaited Tetris DS is finally going to be released this week. Many fans of Tetris will definitely enjoy playing this game even more. It offers more than the classic Tetris you're used to playing, especially now that Nintendo has provided the DS with a version of the game. The Tetris DS is more interesting because the basic principles of playing Tetris is still present in this version, but the game now becomes more enjoyable with its many variations. Most single-player games will require you to have modes such as standard, mission, push, and touch, among others. One example of this is the Mario-themed mode (Tetris DS - Starring Mario). Single player and multiplayer game modes make playing the Tetris DS fun (even more fun than the classic version of the game). The first person action-adventure series Metroid Prime: Hunters will also be released this week. This game has both single player and multiplayer games, with the latter possible via WiFi. |

Yesterday we posted about the six game modes for the upcomming game, Tetris, for the DS. Well today we have more detailed info about those modes, plus more info and one screenshot for every mode. Below are the different modes with a screenshot next to it. Click the images next to it to view the full version.
Catch: In this Metroid-themed mode, players guide a flying block through Metroid-infested levels and seek out falling Tetriminos. Players can spin and maneuver their block to catch falling Tetriminos and create a 4x4 square. Once they do that, the block will explode in all directions and earn points. Mission: In this Legend of Zelda®-themed mode, players have to complete the missions that appear on the top screen before time runs out. If they don't complete it before time runs out, a heap of new blocks will appear on their screen. If they let blocks stack up to the top of the screen, the game is over. Push: The goal of this mode is to clear two lines at a time to move the screen down and push opponents into the red zone. Players just can't let their own blocks build up too high, or it's game over. Players also can play this mode with another player using DS Download Play. Puzzle: Players solve tricky Tetris puzzles at their own pace using just the Tetriminos provided. Players tap the orientation they want to use and then the Tetrimino will automatically fall into place. There are more than 50 puzzles for players to complete in all. Standard: This Mario-themed mode features the same addictive game play that made the original Tetris so wildly popular. Players guide falling Tetriminos and form horizontal lines to clear them away. Mario runs around Super Mario Bros. levels in the background. Touch: This unique take on Tetris really shows off the touch-screen capability of Nintendo DS. Players use a stylus to drag and move Tetriminos in a giant stack to make them fall into horizontal lines. In early levels, they can tap Tetriminos to spin them just the way they need them. Players have as much time as they need to carefully plan their moves, so it plays very differently from the other frantic modes.Fore more info about the Wi-Fi abilities, Characters and Key Info, click the "Full Article" link below. |

To go with yesterdays news of Tetris DS being developed, we are greeted today with two brand new screenshots of the upcoming title.
A new portable edition of the world's most renown puzzle game. Each of the DS version's six modes of play features a theme based on a classic Nintendo game, such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda or Metroid. The traditional Tetriminos (falling blocks) and line-clearing strategy remain the staples of the game, but the touch screen adds a new element of interactivity. Some modes give players special Tetris puzzles to solve. Others feature head-to-head action between two players, or massive wireless battles between 10 DS users, even if only one player has a game card.
Players also can log onto Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to compete in two- or four-player battles. Tetris DS even includes a point-based rating system based on players' battle results. Opponents can see one another's ratings, which indicate their skill levels. |

[Via IGN] With a release expected March 20th, Tetris DS, will come to the DS handheld. This version of Tetris will feature a classic Nintendo theme, " paying homage to past Nintendo franchises such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid in the game's worlds. " The DS version will support a total of ten players locally, supporting single cartridge multiplayer for those nine other non-cartridge DS owners!Tetris DS is planned with full support of Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service. Two and Four player battles are possible online, and the game will record and display online rankings earned during the online battles. " It's not the first time the game's gone online (Tetris Worlds for the Xbox and even the unofficial Netris for the PC have had the ability for years) ". However with this new release and over the next year Nintendo will show that they definately have bigger plans for their online gaming service. |
