Spectrobes from Disney Interactive Studios - Image 1Since the Spectrobes' release last March 13, it has been conquering the DS charts all over. The title will surpass 700,000 units shipped worldwide by the end of this month, according to reports.

Spectrobes, Disney Interactive Studios' first original IP, is an anime-ish sci-fi RPG that takes us to the adventures of Rallen and Jeena against the evil Krawl. They wake up the narcoleptic Spectrobes on their journey to save the universe.

The title's target is naturally kids and oh boy, it did hit that mark quite well. The title hit Europe by storm, getting top spot on sales charts for Germany and Holland. The UK and France also got hit by the Spectrobes bug - it ranked first among third party DS titles. Disney Interactive Studios' Craig Relyea, vice president of marketing had this to say:

Spectrobes has quickly become a global phenomenon and has consistently been among the top-selling Nintendo DS titles since launch. We look forward to growing Spectrobes as a Disney franchise and providing more content for the increasing number of Spectrobes fans worldwide.

Well, the kids are surely having fun. Spectrobes is now on the shelves, retailing at US$ 29.99 (SRP)

Thundora - Image 1

1Up reports that there's a Spectrobe named Thundora coming to meet DS lovers everywhere. As part of a new initiative to get more people interested in their game, Disney will be releasing a set of downloadable content for unlocking on gamers' DS units. All Spectrobes fans have to do to get them is to use their Nintendo WiFi connection to pick up points to unlock them.

Of course, one new Spectrobe creature isn't all that's in store, according to Disney's press release:

Log on each week and accrue points to earn a variety of downloadable content, including the mysterious new Spectrobe. This enigmatic new creature may prove to be the key to saving the universe from the evil Krawl!

All in all, it's a pretty fun way to get the content, and with no actual money involved, it's definitely kid and parent-friendly as well.

Can't get enough of Spectrobes? Neither can we, and that's why we've got two new North American commercials for the game, courtesy of Disney via YouTube.

The two commercials feature the quirky aspects of the game itself. Instead of simply raising your creature from start to finish, you have to coax it out by talking to it or blowing on the microphone. Sure, you won't really be talking to anything real, but it's a fun mechanic that definitely will draw in kids, and some kid-like adults as well.

In any case, here are the videos for you. Enjoy!

The other video awaits after the jump!

Spectrobes packshot - Image 1Disney Interactive Studios announced today that the sleepy Spectrobes have awaken from sweet slumber and is now on its way to your nearest retail stores.

Follow the adventures of Rallen and Jeena as they travel across the galaxy to collect the narcoleptic fossilized creatures called Spectrobes. With full support for the DS's Wi-Fi capabilities and ad hoc wireless connection, you'll also be able to download new content, access game results online, and trade with or battle other players.

And not only that, Spectrobes also makes use of the handheld's touch screen and microphone in training nearly 500 unique game creatures and customizing each Spectrobe.

The Jupiter Corporation-developed Spectrobes is rated E by the ESRB and has a suggested retail price of US$ 29.99.

If you want to save the world, then you've gotta train those Spectrobes. There's a new trailer up for Spectrobes, and this time, we're doing it Japanese-style!

Instead of your usual American ad for Spectrobes or another webisode, this is a short Japanese trailer for the game. We really can't wait for this game by Jupiter Corp., as it feels a bit like a mix of Jade Cocoon, Pokemon, and Digimon for the DS. Best of all, it's got some cool anime stylings to boot.

In any case, enjoy the vid, and show your love for the game when it comes out on March 15.

Three webisodes? Check. Screens? Check. Official release date? Check. Hmmm...let's see, what else could we bring you to psych you guys up even further for the narcoleptic yet powerful Spectrobes? Perhaps a gameplay footage showing Rallen and two Spectrobes in action?

Yep, we knew that would do the trick! So anyway, this new trailer shows some CG clips of Rallen and also shows how the Spectrobes evolve from their innocent youth to the ass-kicking creatures they become...when they're awake, that is. It's also interesting to note that you'll also see how you'll be able to unlock extra Spectrobes content by poking the holes on the card on the...gaaah, nevermind! Just watch the vid and you'll see. *winks*

Kudos to Siliconera for sharing this!

Spectrobes input card - Image 1You just gotta love those sleeping Spectrobe beauties. Disney has recently released Webisode 4 and revealed the new features for this intergalactic DS title.

Spectrobes' gameplay will demand full use of the DS' features. Players will use the stylus (of course) and the mic to dig up and train the narcoleptic Spectrobes, use the WiFi connection to download additional content, and play online via the internet.

Included in each Spectrobes pack is four translucent lenticular code input cards. They unlock additional content like creatures and minerals once a player unlocks a special ability in the game. These collectible trading cards have numbered holes. The cards fit on top of the touch screen, and players use the stylus to punch in numerical codes during the game. Additional trading cards will be available after the game's release.

Players can also have a break from battling the evil Krawl and connect to the Internet where they'll be issued with a personal planetary patrol badge number. Leader boards will show players' stats and track top scores for special sequence battles. Talk about worldwide bragging rights. Or players can battle locally with other players via WiFi: one-on-one or an organized tournament that can support up to 16 players.

Spectrobes by Jupiter Corporation will hit the shelves on March 13 at a retail price of USD $ 29.99. In the meantime, you can watch Webisode 4 below.

Spectrobes screens - Image 1Spectrobes screens - Image 2

Can't get enough of the adorably narcoleptic Spectrobes, can ya? Neither can we, which is why despite having seen all three webisodes of the game, we still have to see more of this anime-inspired RPG that's still currently brewing in Jupiter Corporation's kitchen. How? Via a whole batch of new screens baybee!

And as far as we can see, we oughta give Jupiter Corporation major props for making the game look like it's shaping up to be everything that this RPG franchise fanatics expect it to be. For those who don't know, Spectrobes will allow DS users to take on the roles of Planetary Patrol Officers Rallen and Jeena as they thwart the evil plans of Krawl, who's threatening to destroy their entire galaxy.

But to be able to do that, they must first take on the task of awakening the Spectrobes, which, contrary to what some of you might be thinking, is not that easy. After they wake up the Spectrobes, Rallen and Jeena would then have to reanimate and train them, as only the Spectrobes are capable of beating Krawl. DS users all over the globe will get to test their Spectrobe-awakening skills when the game hits shelves worldwide on March 13 next year.

More screens await in the full article!
