Looking for more excitement out of your Nintendo DS and mobile phone? EA Mobile in cooperation with John Carmack and Fountainhead Entertainment has something big coming your way. Orcs & Elves is an upcoming RPG-adventure hybrid for Nintendo's popular handheld and mobile handsets and it's looking very good for a video game of the said platforms.

Want proof? We've got hold of this nice little video of Electronic Arts' game showing us a peek of things to come in Orcs & Elves for the Nintendo DS. This game is based on the Doom RPG engine developed by id Software and it looks like Orcs & Elves is putting the tried-and-true system to good use. Have a look:

A tentative release date is yet to be announced as far as the Nintendo DS version is concerned, but things are looking pretty smooth with Fountainhead and EA Mobile's production efforts. We'll give you more updates on Orcs & Elves when new word is forthcoming.

orcs and elves by id software for the DS - Image 1Not content in simply developing Orcs and Elves for the Nintendo DS only, Fountainhead Entertainment's CEO and former business development director for id Software Katherine Anna Kang said that John Carmack is also planning to release the game on the Nintendo Wii.

Aside from their plan of carrying over old-school dungeon crawling adventure over to the Wii, Kang gave a demonstration on how the game will look like on the DS. While the environments will be rendered in 3D, the monsters players will encounter are rendered in 2D sprites.

There's a good reason for that: there will be times that there's too many monsters trying to charge at the player at the same time, and having them all rendered in 3D may be a bit problematic for the DS.

The menu interface on the touch screen is also interesting in its own right: at first glance, the image on the touch screen looks like just a background illustration, but it's actually the menu interface, drawn in such a way that it looks like the in-game main character is looking down at his feet and staring at the items strapped to his body. There's the sword, the map, the jars of ale, etc.

Orcs and Elves for the DS also has a nice bargaining system with the dragon. Be careful when trying to haggle prices with the dragon; do be mindful of her mood meter and bargain for a lower price when her mood is better. If you can't wait for a good time, you can try to appease the dragon by giving her sheep for food, or other things.

Certainly a nice addition to the DS library of games, and we couldn't wait to see how this game will turn out on the Wii.
