Open Season Survival Guide

Let's accept the fact that in the end we're all at the mercy of Mother Nature and that she'll pwn us anytime she wants. This can include letting bears who can turn a pink brassiere and a moose's antlers into a lethal slingshot, armed with either a smelly skunk or a grouchy squirrel with lots of acorns to spare, run lose in the wild.

So, we thought it best that you learn to recognize these situations and know how to get out of them. And who better to learn from than the master of wildlife mischief himself - Boog the bear from Open Season! Just follow this 'Open Season Guide to Surviving the Wilderness for Bears' lessons, and up your chances on not being the butt of jokes of the animal kingdom.

Games that have people's name attached to the title seem to be doing well. Great  examples are Tony Hawk and Tiger Woods-themed games. However, there's also one more familiar name that needs to be mentioned: Tom Clancy.

Tom must be really happy right now. Besides being an author of various military-related books, his name is attached to two games that are bound to be as much of a best-seller as his paperbacks. Ka-ching!

UbisoftTom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent (Xbox 360 and Wii): series has so far sold 14M units globally.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas (Xbox 360, PS3, PSP): another of Tom's name on one of the better sellers: 14M again.
Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii, Nintendo DS): The Rayman is back to sell more than 17M units worldwide.
Far Cry Vengeance (Wii): FPS series that sold 2M worldwide.
Brothers In Arms D-Day (PSP): young but sold 3Mso far. Good start.
Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII (Wii): planes and WWII--some of the things you'll need for a good game.
Prince of Persia Rival Swords (PSP): This old game has been selling over 8M globally.
Petz (Nintendo DS): Top Ten on GBA
Red Steel (Wii): The FPS created just for the Wii. Looks awesome.
GT Pro Series (Wii): takes the Wii controllers for a real ride.
Open Season (Xbox 360, PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii) the movie-tie-in game that's all over the gaming consoles and handhelds this year.
Star Wars Lethal Alliance (Nintendo DS, PSP): the first Star Wars built just for the next-gen handhelds.
Monster 4X4 World Circuit (Wii): Scary and big trucks come rolling down the Wii.

Open Season

Boog the bear and Elliot the mule-deer are out now, earlier on the gaming platforms than on the big screen! Ubisoft just released Open Season today, September 18, and is (and will be) available for the PSP, PS2, NDS, Xbox 360, Xbox, PC, GBA GameCube, and Wii (coming soon). While it's out in a whole bunch of platforms, it's still gonna be the same game that will take you into the woods for a pre-movie delight!

If you haven't gotten it yet, and are still deciding, here's a simple outline of what we've already revealed before:
  • wild royrides down the rapids!
  • an arsenal of anti-hunter weapons (skunk bombs, acorn-firing squirells, etc)!
  • hunter chases!
  • learn Wild Skills!
  • outrageous woodland pranks!
  • become buddies with other animals!
  • up to three or four players!
So get on with the show! Catch the game before the movie comes out on November 29!

If you're a tree-hugger who wishes poor little Bambi would get a spine, turn into "Bambo" and start kicking some game-hunter butt - rejoice! It's only three and a half months until the release of Ubisoft's Open Season (just in time  to make going back to school a little less grim).

As you may have guessed, OS is a game that takes the whole macho big-game hunter scenario and turns it on its head, as predator becomes prey and the animals start fighting back. A pet grizzly (!) named Boog is lured away from his comfy home by a double-talking mule deer named Elliot. Before long, Boog is hopelessly lost, forced to survive like his wild relatives. As if this is not bad enough, its hunting season. To keep his hide from becoming a rug, Boog must rally all the animals in the forest against the armed human invaders.

The game, scheduled to ship in September about the same time the movie hits theatres, allows the gamer to play as Boog or Elliot, take wild virtual joyrides shooting rapids in a floating outhouse (sure to be a hit with the middle-school set), and access an arsenal  of deadly weapons - including skunk bombs and acorn-firing squirrels. One can play alone, or with up to three other gamers.

An E-10 rating is expected.

Ubisoft has announced the development of Open Season, as a tie-in with the first animated motion picture from Sony. Both will be released in Fall, with the game, out on "all available gaming platforms", coming out roughly 2 weeks before the movie enters theaters on September 29.

Now, before you dismiss this game as another piece of license cash-in junk, be aware that it's being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the same studio which was/is responsible for games like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, King Kong and the upcoming Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Rainbow Six: Vegas.

In Open Season, domesticated grizzly Boog and the mule deer Elliot find themselves lost in the forest just before hunting season. The game has players controlling the two animals, fending off the hunters with a variety of inventive weapons - skunk bombs, rabbits and acorn-firing squirrels are only some of them. Multiplayer modes will ensure even more fun, with the ability to challenge friends and jump into four-player minigames.
