Nothing says "gamer inside" on your front door like having a NES controller for a doorbell. In this unrevealed gamer home, a NES controller was modded into a wireless doorbell, giving visitors an added treat when coming over. Video inside. |

For those who haven't heard yet, Mega Man 2.5D is a fan-made project created by Swedish animator Peter Sjostrand. "2.5D" simply means that the game is right between 2D and 3D, taking Sjostrand's definition of 2.5D of course. This new vid came out earlier today, and for those who grew up with Mega Man like me, seeing MegaMan and ProtoMan work together is fangasm at its finest. |

Even if Chrono Trigger stands as one of the best RPGs ever to come out the then Squaresoft bag of tricks, you might say that Square Enix didn't follow-up on the fame as well as the fans would like. So along came Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes, a fan-created ROM hack sequel to the time-travelling adventures of Crono and company. Unfortunately for the devs of the project, Square Enix just whipped out the dreaded C&D order, demanding that they destroy the 98% complete project. You might feel as bad as I do especially after you watch the trailer. |

You'd think the Wiimote would be the ultimate controller for shooters, but having to switch between the D-pad and the A button every time you change weapons just makes for clunky gameplay. The solution? Slap a track ball on the A button! And that's just what AcidMods did. Check out a vid of their latest mod after the link. Another thanks to Mark for the tip off! |

Capcom cleared the air today on some mistaken notions about a few UK
release dates that have been floating around. Specifically, those of Street Fighter IV (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) and Bionic Commando. Unfortunately, the dates were apparently just a list of retail guides rather than actual game launch dates. |

Electronic Arts has announced that it will not buy Take-Two just yet. The company has made an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission that it will wait until the FTC finishes its probe into the takeover proposal. More in the full article. |

The numbers are in for Japan's hardware and software sales for the week ended October 7. While titles like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix have helped boost PSP sales for the past few weeks, the handheld finds itself bowing down to the Nintendo DS.The DS tops the week's charts at 87,535 sales, with the PSP following at 86,895 sales. The week also sees the Nintendo Wii console maintaining its lead among the next-gen consoles at 20,704 sales. Sony's PlayStation 3 follows with 10,446 sales, with Microsoft's Xbox 360 sales totalling 1547. Things look a little brighter for the PSP games-wise, as we see Gundam Battle Chronicle by Namco-Bandai pulling ahead in Media Create's charts with 86,208 sales. Pretty good for a game that was just launched on October 4. The DS' own leader in th charts is ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat by Mistwalker, at 49,678 copies sold. The title looks to be quite a heavyweight, being the DS' first game to use a 2 gigabit (or 256 megabyte) game card. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 by Namco-Bandai, Atari for the Wii is the only visible title for the next-gen consoles in media Create's top 10, at 34,577 copies sold. |

There's a new The Legend of Zelda-themed DS mod up for grabs in Ebay, and its just in time for the recent US release of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Do take note that the bidding is taking place in Australia, however, and that bets are placed in Australian dollars. This DS mod sports a nice, cool white-and-blue color scheme, topped off with Link's sword and shield emblem. We couldn't help but feel that green or gold should have sufficed, but this blue motif is still nifty in its own right. Another cool feature is that green LEDs are placed underneath the shield, giving the shield a nice, ethereal glow everytime the DS is turned on. This nice effect just about puts this DS mod in the same category of coolness as the NES Controller and Koopa mods. The highest bid as of this writing is AU$ 285 (about US$ 255). 15% of the bets will be donated to Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity, giving the winning bidder a feeling of doing something good in the world, along with the purchase. Interested in bidding? Check out the Read link for more pictures and details on how to bid! |

No, you aren't seeing things. That really is a gigantic DS modded to enormous proportions. Comcast user "olimar" shows what he did with the use of two tablet PC screens, an FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) logic chip to translate the hardware, a Nintendo DS, and some other parts he had "lying around" to create the Jumbotron DS.0 The two screens simulate the double screen of the Nintendo DS while the pen input is taken care by the FPGA and sent back to the DS. It can also take screenshots via a PC serial port. He also noted the parts he used as well as the approximate cost of each:
Either way, it surely is an ingenious display of the possibilities you can push a hardware's capabilities to its limit. The full article awaits after the jump! |
