Gyakusen Saiban 4 - Image 1  Gyakusen Saiban 4 - Image 3

Here's your vocabulary word for the day: Einspruch is the German for Objection. So when your hand is caught in the cookie jar, yell "Einspruch!" then run away as they try to figure out what you just said. But going to the point...screens have been caught for Gyakuten Saiban 4 (or Ace Attorney 4 if you prefer) in German. Seems like everyone's favorite court room game may make it's way into the western hemisphere soon enough.

Gyakuten Saiban 4 sold over 500,000 in Japan and it was promised before that it will reach the US if Ace Attorney 3 did well in the market and it seems it might come to pass after all. The fourth installment, called Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, will be the first of the series that won't have Phoenix Wright as the main character. Ema Skye is back in the game, though. Updates as we get them.

Ace Attorney - Image 1

Who would've thought that graphical novels can actually hit big in the US? Granted that calling a Phoenix Wright game a graphic novel is an understatement, even series producer Minae Matsukawa was surprised after experiencing much success. GayGamer got answers straight from one of the best female producers in the industry.

Much like cult hits, the first Phoenix Wright didn't have an explosive launch. However, as we all know, it soon went on to become one of the most celebrated titles to grace a handheld. "This very loyal [Phoenix Wright] community has been building up – since it’s been two years I come now and get to meet the fans. Everybody knows it; people love it; it’s very, very gratifying as a producer," Matsukawa said.

Thanks to the series' continued success, the US is now anticipating Ace Attorney 3. By what we hear, this third entry to the DS is sure to woo the  fans. Thing is, it's also what will determine if Ace Attorney 4 will ever see release outside its homeland.

Gyakuten Saiban 4
sold more than 500,000 copies in Japan in one week, but the west isn't exactly like-minded. Asked if number four will reach the states, Matsukawa answered:

Yes, we would like to very much, and we’re working to make sure that happens. But it’s kind of pointless if number three doesn’t do very well, so we want to make sure people know about that, buy it, and tell their friends!

Got that? We can't stress it enough - grab Ace Attorney 3, tell your friends about it, and pray that your efforts are enough to get Ace Attorney 4 on shelves.

Wha - what the? Why the **** are you objecting, Capcom?! - Image 1Capcom must be really happy. Their PR joyfully trumpets that Gyakuten Saiban 4 was able to ship more than 500,000 units in its first week of release in Japan. If it will repeat that kind of success in the US... if it ever comes to the States, Capcom will then become really happy.

And I guess at some point we should start calling it Ace Attorney rather than Phoenix Wright. After all, it ain't Phoenix you're playing now, right? (Object all you want, the judge is taking five...)

The PR ends with "As always, Capcom will continue to strive to produce great original games..." and Ace Attorney definitely qualifies. Yeah, more games like this.  Of course, if this game inspires a deluge of applications to law school, heaven help human civilization after.

Gyakuten Saiban 4 - Image 1You've all known it's out, and you all loved the ad, now you're probably curious as to how the game performed. Well, Gamasutra reports that Capcom has scored its biggest hit to date with the Ace Attorney/Gyakuten Saiban franchise. The DS title has apparently cashed in over 250,000 unit sales in its first week of release. Below is the top ten on the software sales charts from Media Create:
  1. Gyakuten Saiban 4 - Capcom - DS - 250,186
  2. Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: MiniMini Daikoushin! - Nintendo - DS - 92,017
  3. Wii Sports - Nintendo - Wii - 41,035
  4. Yoshi's Island DS - Nintendo - DS - 40,974
  5. Hajimete no Wii - Nintendo - Wii - 28,394
  6. Layton Kyouju no Fushigi na Machi - Level-5 - DS - 25,548
  7. Eigo ga Nigate na Otona no DS Training: Motto Eigo Duke - Nintendo - DS - 25,264
  8. Musou Orochi - Koei - PS2 - 23,067
  9. Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4 - Konami - PS2 - 19,816
  10. Watashi no Relaxuma - Rocket Company - DS - 18,734
Other new entrants into the charts include Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, and the children's puzzle game and activity center, Watashi no Relaxumo from publisher Rocket Company. You can see from the sales figures how well they're doing.

While PSP, Wii, and DS titles show up in the charts, it seems important to note that Gamasutra reports that there are no PS3 or Xbox 360 titles in the whole top thirty of the Media Create charts.
