Mortal Kombat fans rejoice! Ultimate Mortal Kombat, Midway Games' Nintendo DS iteration of the legendary beat-em-up, features not only the addictive MK Puzzle Kombat, but a return to the game's 2D roots. And the best part? You can take the fight wherever you go, and fight any opponent using the game's Wi-Fi multiplayer capabilities! Awesome!

As we can see in the game's second trailer, the characters retain their old moves, as well as souped-up animations that's sure to make gameplay a bit more intense. The ridiculous splashes of blood are also back, which makes every uppercut - not to mention any high-impact move - viscerally satisfying. While we don't know just how much of the old has been ported over to the knew, we can't help but wish that the Toasty guy would make his appearance as well.

Glorious 2D action at its finest. Enjoy the video!

Stranglehold poster - Image 1Another developer/publisher joins in on Leipzig, as Midway announces its expected game line up for the said convention. Included in Midway's itinerary is the highly anticipated Stranglehold title (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), backed up by BlackSite: Area 51 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3),  Unreal Tournament 3 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) , and Ultimate Mortal Kombat (DS).

Aside from the games, Midway is also making known its plans for a press briefing titled "Fewer, Bigger, Better: Midway in the Next Generation." The said press event will provide visitors with a glimpse of the company's studio system, and its global industry trends. In line with these announcement, Midway Games CEO David F. Zucker had this to say:

Our 2007 Games Convention lineup truly reflects our product strategy to develop top quality titles in a wide range of genres across all major platforms. With exciting next generation games such as Stranglehold and proven brands like Mortal Kombat, along with games for the younger market and handhelds, this is Midway's most diverse and strongest line up yet.

Stay tuned in case more announcements for either the Leipzig event (August 20 to 26), or Midway Games are announced.

Midway Games Logo - Image 1After releasing Mortal Kombat Armageddon for the Wii and Touchmaster for the DS, Midway is looking to strengthen the Nintendo front with five titles this November. The games look to be targeting varied types of gamers which should give the Midway a very good spread in terms of market coverage.

First up we have two games for the Nintendo Wii. Cruisi'n, which we reported on before, has already been confirmed and is joined by Game Party.

I'd like to direct your attention to Game Party which appears to be Midway's stab into the casual gaming market. The game has been described as "a collection of classic skill games from around the world, from American sports venues to European gathering spots."

For the DS we have Ultimate Mortal Kombat, Foster's Home for Imaginary Parents, and The Bee Game. The latter two seem to be geared towards a younger audience while Ultimate Mortal Kombat is essentially Puzzle Fighter with a Mortal Kombat spin.

Midway's executive vice president of worldwide studios Matt Booty spoke on this apparent move by the company to strengthen their Nintendo console lineup:

The Wii and Nintendo DS require games that are innovative and take full advantage of a unique control scheme to offer a truly different type of gameplay experience.

We are very excited to be bringing classic Midway franchises such as Mortal Kombat and Cruis’n along with powerful licensed content like Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends to the massive installed base of Nintendo system owners.

The senior vice president for marketing and corporate communications of Nintendo of America Inc. George Harrison shared the same vision saying:

Nintendo is very excited to be working with Midway to have these great brands and new products come exclusively to Wii and Nintendo DS. These new games paired with the unique controls of Wii and Nintendo DS will continue to expand videogames to new audiences

So it looks like Christmas is coming a little early for gamers everywhere with multiple games arriving this November. Old and young gamers alike will probably enjoy the new offerings from Midway.

Midway announces three new DS games coming holiday season - Image 1

According to a report, publisher Midway has just announced three new titles headed for the Nintendo DS. Ultimate Mortal Kombat, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends: Imaginary Invaders and The Bee Game were all identified as the upcoming DS lineup and have a release schedule dating this November.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat is probably everything Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was with an inclusion of local and online multiplayer competitions and match tracking. It appears, however, that the game will come with Puzzle Kombat, a title reflective of Super Puzzle Fighter's gameplay aspects with "deformed" MK characters.

The Bee Game will star characters from Maya the Bee, pitting Maya in an adventure to save her friends who were blown away in a storm. Mini-games are likely to accompany the title, so if you're familiar with the franchise or the puzzle gameplay feats, the title might be worth grabbing.

And finally, the Imaginary Friends will also make a showing on Nintendo's handheld with Bloo trying to rescue Madam Foster from space aliens. Madam Foster was searching for The Greatest Thing in the Universe before being held hostage the "imaginary invaders."
