Dissida: Final Fanasy - Image 1

It's a double date, folks! Romancing two handhelds at the same time, Square Enix has finally revealed the North American release date for Dissidia: Final Fantasy on the PSP and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days on the DS.

Set your calendars, Face Book accounts, to-do lists, and get all those bells and whistles set to alarm. This is one date you surely wouldn't want to forget: August 31, 2009!

Hmm, yeah. I know. It's a bit late for a mid-2009 release for Dissidia, but don't worry. That gives you more than enough time playing all those Final Fantasy games you might have missed. And the same goes for KH 358/2 Days.

Speaking of KH, there's still no announced release date for Birth By Sleep. Which is fine too. You'll probably be busy with Dissidia at that time, so there you go.

It's your own d*mn fault that you went ahead and imported the japanese version of Dissidia in the first place.

Localizing it doesn't mean the voice acting will suck.
Usually it's just a certain character that has a voice you can't stand. Like Crisis Core, Zack's voice pissed me off, but I hardly cared. After playing the game, the voice acting seems like an afterthought.

Ridiculous. 7 months for a translation.

localization.

"Translating" something usually connotes paraphrases, direct replacement of words in this language to that language, etc.

However, localizing something takes time because they don't just translate things on a word for word basis. They translate it in context of the audience.

Aside from that, they also have to get all the English voice actors together (let's hope they bring back Steve Burton for Cloud!) to record the audio for the cutscenes in Dissidia.

Translation - localization, rather - takes longer than one might think. ;-)

that is doesnt involve dubbing o_O Dissidia should be left in japanese please....

I hope they have an option to keep it un-dubbed. A bunch of games are already using the feature. English text, Japanese audio. Mmm. Just the way I like my anime. ^_^

   Re: Cortador - 2009-02-09
 » Hmmm

I doubt there will be an option for 2 languages since the game is so damn big already.

I don't think there will be any space left for extra things such as dual-language and so on.

Cortador has a a good point. The UMD can't hold that much data(1.5GB max I think). I hope that Square goes cheap and not include dub and stick with subs.

 » Dub please

I for one am not a Japanophile.

As long as the voice acting doesn't suck I don't have any problem with it. If the voice acting happened to suck then I'd have a problem.

There really haven't been many Square-Enix games that I've actually disliked the voice acting, even though I may have not enjoyed the game.

Take FF10 for example. Game sucks but the voice acting was very good. FF10-2, FF12, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus also had good voice acting.

Now for the remake of Star Ocean First Departure and port of Star Ocean Second Evolution. The voice acting was pretty good overall. First Departure had better voice acting throughout and no problems with that one in the least I don't think. Star Ocean Second Evolution has a ton and the majority of it is very good, but there are a few parts that have poor voice acting, but the majority of it is good(I'd say 95-99% good.)

I'll also go on a note and say I don't think there's been a Tales of title yet that's had crappy voice acting.

So yeah. It all depends on the game. There's hardly crappy voice acting anymore in this gen though.
