The Sword of Oz...But this one's not a game.

"The Sword of Oz", the first of a planned trilogy of "The Dark Witches of Oz," has been transformed into an epic fantasy adventure interactive ebook for the PC, DS, PSP, PS3, Wii, and the iPod. Yes, the iPod. The story is based on the classic "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum.

"The Sword of Oz" is set before before the wicked witches overthrew the old king of Oz and prior to the arrival of Dorothy and Toto. Instead, it's Dorothy's future grandfather Arthur Gale who is wearing the ruby slippers, so to speak.

Gale is the character through which this new chapter in Oz’s history is experienced. "The Sword of Oz" is a multi-branching adventure and readers can pick which adventures Arthur will take on. The different paths through the narrative vary widely but also closely connected so events not directly experienced by a reader in one sitting still affect those in the adventure they choose to experience.

"The Sword of Oz", written by best selling fantasy novel author Darren Reid ,will be available exclusively at NextGenBooks. NextGenBooks is a new website where PC and console (Wii, DS, PS3, and PSP) users can access Darren Reid’s free ebook library. The Sword of Oz interactive ebook will be released on January 19. Hopefully, it will create a generation of interactive e-bookworms.

I think the person above deserves an IP ban on several accounts of sexism, vulgar language, homophobia and projecting his severely unintelligent thoughts.

While the ebook seems interesting, sounds like a text adventure game. I wish neil gaiman did one.

I second that opinion. This site needs a "Report abuse" button for all comments.

I agree with D, and I disagree with the previous 2 people; I think this could open up some interesting new experiences.

Goddammit. To quote Walter Slovotksy, three things happen to other things because of time. 1/ They improve, like cheese or wine. 2/ They deteriorate, like wood or paper. 3/ They are f***ed with until all their charm is lost completely, like Looney Tunes characters, or Mickey Mouse.

Just because it's a new decade does NOT mean take the great things we grew up with and try to modernize. them. The Wizard of Oz was fine where it was. It never needed a game, or a continuation.

I hope all the game's developers and the new author of The Sword of Oz die slowly, in great pain, for tainting a National Treasure. The bastards.

Easy there old timer, no need for you to go blowing your top, and cussing out till your blue in the face cause you believe that someone commited a crime against humanity for expanding upon the Wizard Of Oz story. If you could look past your ranting for a bit, you may realize that L. Frank Baum wrote 14 books in the Wizard Of Oz series, so there wasn't just one book on this title to itself, but more which expandend on the stories in that series. Did you ever stop to think before your rant, that Darren Reid might be wishing to contribute something new to an old time classic ? Authors are allowed to do that these days you know, unless you would prefer to pointlessly argue otherwise.

Would you judge a person, like you judge a book by it's cover without knowing what's written inside ? Don't judge, lest you be judged yourself.
