Square Enix makes late Eidos bid but Warner in pole position - Image 1Things are looking up for Eidos, which had a very tough year where they had a global studio restructuring and a financial upheaval.

The owner of the Tomb Raider franchise is being courted by several big names, including the titan studio Square Enix, who's looking to expand with more titles (beyond Final Fantasy) that appeal to Western tastes.

Squeenix has been pretty serious in its bid to expand to the West, just recently setting up camp in Los Angeles. Looks like prez Yoichi Wada abandoned the idea of a Japanese gaming alliance to compete with Western studios.

Although Eidos would certainly bolster their cred with the Western audience, insiders believe that Warner Bros will be the one to win over Lara Croft's company, since it already owns 20% of the studio. However, there is a possibility that Square could just buy assets off the company, like the Hitman franchise.

I'm rather curious to see what Squeenix will bring to the Hitman and Tomb Raider franchises if ever they do acquire Eidos. Actually, I just wanna see Shiva and Lara Croft wrestle.
