Nintendo DS - Image 1Shigeru Miyamoto hears the clamor, and he intends to deliver in a big way. Nintendo's top gaming mastermind is now looking into packing more services for the DS. With fruition, he'd like the gaming platform to have various services, from maps, info-on-the-go, to being a coupon dispenser.

"We're putting as much energy into building such a system as we would for any game," Miyamoto told reporters in Tokyo on Apr. 09. "We have received a lot of requests." The idea isn't really a new one for the handheld, especially if you consider that the homebrew community already bombarded the DS with useful apps that could further grow into great services, like Todd Jeffreys' DSLatin, Frezzy's WordDS, and arrpirate's Health Monitoring Kit.

The DS has sold nearly 100 million units worldwide since the first one came out in 2004, and should this new development hit its stride, that number's definitely gonna shoot up. Although Nintendo didn't provide details as to what services they've got in mind, they did say that they have no plans of charging monthly subscriptions for their services.
