Ohhh, sneaky, sneaky Nintendo! Early reports have come in that the new DSi is not - repeat, NOT - capable of booting existing flash cartridges. There's a long list of casualties, but the major names include the R4 and the EZ Flash V. These are the confirmed models that do not work with the DSi (although don't bet that others not included in the list do):
While this is a great move against piracy, it's a little unfair that the homebrew scene should be punished as well. I wouldn't worry about it though. I give it a month before someone comes up with R5 or something. Related Articles:

» Indeed
Just let the people in charge of making those flashcarts get their hands on the new DS and they will come up with something new.

» why use a current flash cart?
if i remember correctly, the DSi has an SD card slot. I'm putting my money more towards softmods on this thing.

» yep
this is probably whats gonna happen. SD is a lot cheaper and can hold more so that would really be a great idea

You do realize that current flash carts use MicroSD cards, right?

But do you realize that if softmodding happens, the need of flashcart will be inexistent and available to anybody with an SD card?

indeed why use flashcart , it is expensive and involve too much hardware and fake flashcart and clones.

» without r4...
in order to mod your dsi you will first need to get a compatible mod card in order to launch the app that flashes it.
but really, why pirate ds?
98% of their games are complete garbage.
as for the (6) good ones? worth buying anyways.
the only reason i see to justify using r4 is in order to keep your save data for games you wanna sell/ trade and of course homebrew.
