Nintendo DS - Image 1In an interview with CVG, Race Driver: Grid developer Peter Shea had some pretty strong words directed towards the developers and publishers of other Nintendo DS games.

In a nut shell, he basically complained about the fact that "
many publishers seem to think it's okay to treat a portable title on DS, as if it were a mobile phone game, or a PSOne game."

Shea made a point to stress that "the graphics on DS titles may not be of the same complexity as the last generation of consoles, but that doesn't mean to say the gameplay and features cannot be."

He explained this by saying that with the cost of the games on the handheld, it had better not be a dumbed down version of the games found on larger consoles. Here's exactly what he had to say:

I think it's a mistake to think of handheld games as being cheaper or smaller versions of 'proper console games'. For one thing, they're not that much cheaper, and should still provide £30/$50 worth of entertainment and features.

While some of the points that Shea made have been brought up before, it's still nice to have someone to remind the developers and publishers that consumers want playable games.
