GTA LIVE, anyone? - Image 1

A good number of gamers and investors probably have their fingers crossed while Electronic Arts' offer to acquire Take-Two Interactive is still on the table, but Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter doesn't seem worried. He believes the Grand Theft Auto franchise can live on even without the developer Rockstar North's help in case it branches off after the acquisition.

In EA's hands, Pachter sees a possibility for GTA to be released every two years and publisher will make US$ 150 million for every release due to acquired technology and intellectual property to create GTA4. Of course, sales still boil down to the game's quality, so Pachter's number for GTA is at US$ 600 million every other year if the current creative team behind its success, Rockstar North, continues to develop the games.

On the other hand, Wedbush Morgan noted a decline in EA's stocks today which people claim as suggestive that "investors are concerned about whether the Rockstar North team will remain after a change in control."

The analyst group doesn't see any repercussions if Take-Two is to reject EA's offer, and expects the giant publisher to just take back its US$ 2 billion with no other big companies showing signs of making a similar deal. If EA succeeds in acquiring GTA's current publisher, Pachter foresees a bidding war with developer Rockstar North up for grabs as its contract with Take-Two expires in February 2009.

thrill kill

even if they keep releasing games, they will suck and will be a lot lighter in content

 » Meh...

GTA without Rockstar North doesn't make for good GTA. Just look at the portable versions and compare them to their console counterparts. If they do acquire Take Two, it would be in their best interest to do whatever it takes to keep the present GTA team on their payroll.

However, this is EA we're talking about. "Name brand over quality" is their motto. :/

The portable games rocked. What the hell are YOU talking about? +|

Anyway, ***** EA. They suck. They suck hard. GTA will suck if EA has anything to do with it..

Apparently he hasn't read that they said they wouldn't change GTA one bit then...
Also why does everyone still bash EA? They're obviously working on trying to get their named to look better, they've got Mass Effect and the DLC is still coming out, and everyone will still buy ME2 even if EA is involved. They released great games last year, skate. was probably the best sports game of 07. Then when EA and Harmonix joined forces they created the grandaddy of all rhythm games with Rock Band. Burnout Paradise was a little bit of a change for the franchise, but it was for the better IMO

You're underestimating Rockstar North's importance to the franchise. Yes, EA could continue the series without them, but would it have the Rockstar touch? That remains to be seen, and it's such an uncertainty at this point that the possibility alone is enough to merit some worry.

Because Rockstar North CREATED GTA! A GTA game made without them wouldn't be a GTA game IMO and if EA forces them out then I will boycott all future GTA games made by EA! They arn't doing it to get better, they are doing it to elimate the competition and get more money!

 » Well, I guess...

EA be the reason I'll have more money in my pocket because after the travesty aka Madden 07, I and my circle have boycotted this company. So, I guess no more GTAs either.

 » back in the day....

i had respect 4 EA, bring out quality games for the genesis/megadrive like desert strike, road rash, fifa and madden. games what are original, fun, looks good sounds good and plays good. plus the second and third games in the series was actually trying to out do the previous game!

since EA started publishing games, i hated them....

EA got greed, they just want to buy out the competition (eg. burnout). they will just copy other games (Guitar hero). EA puts out betas and call them games!
you dont get updates in EA games but what you do get is tiny content for a rip off price and a lot of marketing.
screw u EA

Not that I'm defending EA in any way, but they didn't rip off guitar hero. That's like saying call of duty ripped off goldeneye for using first person. It's just a genre of gaming.

...oh yea, down with EA!!

   Re: nuffsaid - 2008-02-27
» 1 good EA game + same game next year with minor updates at full price

EA dont make ordinary games anymore, the closes thing to something ordinary is Army of two and that looks like sh*t.

if a games company makes a new genre of game what does well, EA tends to be the first to copy them (cash-in), like the Tony Hawks games and Guitar hero.

i fear if littlebigplanet does well in sales, EA will copy it, stick disney characters on the game and ship it!

as McAwesome said above im not defending EA (infact i think they should be burned to the ground), u forget that guys that made rock band, harmonix, actually made GH1 and GH2. so all they are copying is themselves

GTA will be dead if EA gets their filthy slimey hands on it. I will completely stop buying EA products if they go ahead with this.

I believe Rockstar North have the rights to GTA, even if EA takes T2 it will never have GTA.
