Satoru Iwata,
price drop

Over their lifetimes, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 have both
introduced price cuts to buoy sales. But the Wii? Naw, it doesn't need
a price cut to sell. It just needs to exist. But shouldn't manufacturing costs have gone down by now? Why doesn't Nintendo introduce a price cut? Because they don't want you to feel cheated. In an interview with Nintendo prez Satoru Iwata, he explains that people who first bought a product will feel like they bought it at a loss if a price cut is later introduced. Well I know some guys who felt that way when the Xbox 360 introduced its recent price cut. Iwata also explains that: This is my personal thinking, but when the model's price-tag drops over time, manufacturers are telling consumers it's better to wait, and I've always thought that was a mistake. So don't wait, Nintendo wants to put a smile on your face now. Go out and give them more money. |

I bought the Playstation 2 eight yeasrs ago for about 400€. And now they are selling it between 80 and 130€.
What are they thinking? I fell totally betrayed by sony for lowering the price. I'll never buy anything from those price cheatsers again.

» 8 years ago and you're complaining?
I mean seriously? That's like being pissed because you bought a car for 20k and it's worth 4k eight years later.

With all the ignorant comments that I read on here daily, it's hard to tell whether people are being ironic or just idiotic.

I already feel cheated. I paid $300 for a glorified Gamecube which a controller that sucks. All my Wii does is collect dust.

Lately I've been playing Gamecube games that I never got around to playing. The original Metroid Prime is fun. I guess I needed an excuse to use it and clean off the dust.
Smash Bros. was only fun for so long...

Why would he say such a thing? He's already stated the Wii will see no price cut because of DEMAND. He makes no bones about it and why should he?
Why say something different now?
I can't read the source and even if I could, I wouldn't know who the hell they are. I question the validity of this news. We already know it's because of demand. This excuse is just pathetic.

It seems Nintendo would rather lie than simply say the real reason for no price cut. THEY CAN keep charging $250, and their products still sell well.
Trust me, Nintendo does not care about cheating its customers.
If somebody out there actually felt cheated because Microsoft lowered the price on the 360, then they deserve it.

As usual, you need to learn how to read. Nintendo isn't lying about anything. THEY ALREADY told us that there will be no price drop because the demand is high.

If they won't lower the price because of high demand, they know nothing about economics.
Drop the price to $200 and you'll probably make 150% of the sales at the current price, and it'll more than make up for the cut.

Wow, where the HELL did you go to school?
You lower the price to UP demand. When demand is HIGH you keep the price high.
Your dumb logic ASSumes that people aren't buying a Wii because it's too high. Lowering the price wont sell more Wii's. 150%? Which one of your asses did you pull that number from?
Here's another example. I require X amount of gas per week. Demand is usually pretty fixed. I need gas, PERIOD. Raise the price and what happens? I STILL BUY IT. During the summer months people want to travel MORE, demand goes UP and the price goes UP.
Econ 101 pal, go get an edumacashun.

People aren't buying Wiis for two reasons:
1. High prices. (You can now get an Xbox 360 with five games included for the same price as a Wii with some crappy sports game.)
2. Artificial shortages.
Find me another video game system that hasn't had a price drop in over two years.

As for your example of gas prices, you really couldn't have picked a more false example.
From March 2007 to March 2008, gas consumption in the USA fell 4.3%. Might not sound like much, but it was the first time consumption EVER went down in the last 25 years.
All due to prices.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!
"Find me another video game system that hasn't had a price drop in over two years."
NES
Anyway, you'll be hard pressed because NO OTHER console has ever sold as well as the Wii. The wii has damn near 50% market share out of THREE consoles. That's INSANE! Which is PROOF that your #2 is just more BS.
"From March 2007 to March 2008, gas consumption in the USA fell 4.3%."
Yeah, and? That has NOTHING to do with my example. Regardless of your little teeny tiny 4.3%, DEMAND was at an all time HIGH! Do you think we have a surplus of gas? WRONG!!!! We don't have gas sitting around not being used. We sell every drop we make. The fact that consumption went down means our IMPORT went down versus our INDUSTRIAL OIL going UP. It has nothing to do with price. Those that report as such are just more idiot ANALYSTS.
You got a lot to learn.

WRONG! Did you read where I said demand was an ALL TIME HIGH? Just because you can't afford to buy as much as you WANT doesn't mean your demand goes down.
"Hence the DROP IN CONSUMPTION. Jesus, are you really that dense?"
That is not a HENCE for anything. Do you understand anything about the oil business? We physically got LESS OIL this year then last year based on ratio of demand. Are you really this ignorant?
"EXCEPT IT WASN'T!! If it WERE, CONSUMPTION would have been at an all time high!"
You are, exceptionally ignorant. So according to you if consumption goes down then demand must go down, right? Well, WHAT ABOUT PRODUCTION? Forgot about that eh? There are many factors to this equation. To have you address only two of them is just plan stupid and pointless.

Production neither increased nor decreased. Consumption went down *BECAUSE* demand went down *BECAUSE OF THE PRICES*. How can you possibly be confused about this?

Actually you are WRONG AGAIN. Production went UP. It goes UP EVERY SINGLE YEAR. HOWEVER it didn't go UP ENOUGH. It didn't go up enough based on RATIO OF DEMAND.
"Consumption went down *BECAUSE* demand went down *BECAUSE OF THE PRICES*. How can you possibly be confused about this?"
I know you THINK I'm confused but that's because you THINK you know what you are talking about. You are completely closed off to learning new information and have such a FAT HEAD that even if you started to realize how wrong you are, you would never admit it. You're the dummy that doesn't know squat about oil production. You think we got the EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF BARRELS this year as we did last year (see your quote above)? Foreign and domestic? Do you even realize how many new oil rigs we put into production this year? You are such a fool.
That right there proves how ignorant you are. The fact that you think oil production has not changed even though we've made many changes.
Do even realize how many NEW GAS STATIONS opened up this year? Man!!!! It is amazing how dumb you are.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!
You did post the source of anything. All you did was take a stat and try to explain it with opinion. Of which your opinion is wrong.
But I like how you completely dropped all the issues I just slammed you on.
Everything I mentioned is searchable as well so I'm not sure your ignorant point was.
Or did you just flat disagree with everything again based on absolutely nothing?
