DSi LL - Image 1

Just a couple of days after calling the Nikkei report on the big-screen DSi "conjecture," Nintendo has announced the new DSi model via an update on their official Japanese site.

The upcoming DSi, called DSi LL (leally large?), will feature a 4.2-inch screen but will have the same pixel count. It'll come with two touch pens -- a short one and a larger, more pen-like one -- as well as three pre-installed DSiWare games.

The DSi LL will launch on November 21 in Japan for JP„ 20,000 (US$ 220). Three colors will be available at launch: Dark Brown, Wine Red, and Natural White.

A Stateside release has yet to be announced, but it seems inevitable. The DSi LL will also launch in Europe albeit at a later Q1 2010 date.

 » CONJECTURE!

.....As there is no way that Nintendo would release a PORTABLE machine that is that BIG. Look at that stylus!?
Absolutely ridiculous.

But, unlike the PSP-Go which too was designed to stop piracy, THIS machine seeks to actually IMPROVE on it's current technology. This iteration, though huge in size, offers a larger screen. PSP-Go improved it's tech at the expense of GAMES and an absurd price point. Not too mention all of the proprietary cables you have to buy with it.

» Larger Screen ..same pixel count.

If that's the case, then would that mean that the screens will magnify the display?? Because other than that, I'm, SUPER lost..

» You guys are 100% right.

And, I thought about this too. Same pixel count on a bigger screen generally equals a pixelated mess or magnified mediocrity.

BUT, I am almost willing to bet that this handheld is probably holding a few other secrets other than it's bigger screen and enhanced anti-piracy protection. They will reveal it when we get closer to the release date of this handheld.

On a side note, I think Nintendo is also trying to demoralize Sony with this move. It is a Law of Power to crush your enemies not only in body, but also in spirit. They are going to show Sony that it's not the SIZE of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

They are telling sony that they can even beat them in sales selling something that defies convention for it's time. Smaller=Better in this day and age. But, if Nintendo's LL succeeds where the PSP-GO has failed, it will force Sony to rethink their strategy yet again.

What they really want is to repeat history. This is how they crushed Sega in the competition many moons ago.

» DSI should have been th@ way from the beginning

Thats 4 iterations so far and like sony did with the 2000 to the 3000, they improved minorly from DSi.

My hands are cramp playing with my NDS Lite and it's small screen and cramp buttons.

» How funny is how Sony fails but Nintendo wins?

Even though the PspGo is better cuz the screen will look better. But by doing this with the screen on the DS it will look freaking worse and still people are buying that scam. Seriously all the friends i have that have DS's. They have both DS lite and DSi or the other old DS. Now they gonna have one more ***** ass piece of outdated hardware 6 month befoer they new DS2 or whatever it will be called.
Plus i guess the screen will look really bad and i hope they made buttons bigger aswell.

» You're all missing the point,

The new DSi LL is squarely aimed at the older individual. This device, with its bigger screen and more a traditional pen designed stylus suggested that it will be used for puzzles, crosswords etc., and as an e-reader of sorts.
I can't see it appealing at all to the more typical gaming demographic at all.
But then it's not designed to.
Think of the DSi LL as a digital Large Format Book, like you'd find in you're local library.

One thing that makes this alot better than the GO is that Nintendo is atleast making the screen size bigger, while Go makes the screen smaller, I wouldnt say they increased the tech in PSP GO because there is no increase in tech except the 4 hundred something MHZ for something as stupid as USB.

PSP GO hasnt really done anything except bring a 5 year old device into a smaller, more compact design and also dont give me that crap about oh you can play PSN games on it or PSN is exclusive to GO cause you can buy and download PSP/ PS1 games off of PSN for the regular PSP aswell.

Im just admitting facts. Oh and homebrew handhelds have more power than a PSP GO has and Homebrew handhelds are cheaper aswell, if you get the GP2X wiz, which comes with 800MHZ and can perfectly play arcade games rather easily through emulation.

It may come with smaller screen but it comes with everything a DS/ PSP comes with combined. Oh yeah PSP GO is NEW but only in regards to smaller more compact design wow. Not.

I have a PSP and I think its amazing and when my grandma compares it to DS, well she likes PSP more mainly cause it has a 4.3 inch screen. She always thought DS needed a bigger screen. If this is at a good price, I will be getting it.

 » Well said......

I know everyone is looking at this and saying why but thats why this handheld is doing so much more than the PSP go I mean I didnt even buy a GO because I knew that it was a small piece of crap compared to the library of games that the DS has to the PSP GO thats another reason why Nintendo will stay on top with there Handhelds.......
