NeonDS - Image 1There seem to be some new surprises in store for the Nintendo DS Emulator known as NeonDS. It seems the author has released NeonDS v0.1.1 for people to try out, though it's still incomplete.

For those who haven't heard of it, NeonDS is a work-in-progress Nintendo DS emulator for Windows. NeonDS currently has no sound enabled because the author is busy focusing on 3D support first, but we do hope that sound support happens eventually.

There's a reason behind this release though. "In the next two weeks I'll be busying moving my home to another city," he writes on his website. "I'll have no time working on this emulator. So, here I release a version with incomplete 3D display engine support. Although the 3D support is not complete yet, there are already some games playable."

Here's the current changelog for v0.1.1. Enjoy the emulator!
  • 3D display engine (incomplete yet)
  • Replace D3D with OpenGL for display rendering
  • Support 2x display zooming
  • Fix some DMA bugs

Dualis for the DS - Image 1Dualis r20.4 is out, and it's sure to make your DS homebrew days a bit brighter. Now lads, we've said it before and we'll say it again: Dualis, the NDS emulator for PC, is NOT used to play game backups; it is used strictly for homebrew and will NOT work for anything else.

It took quite a while for this new version to come out, so we're sure you're all itching to get your hands on this one. But first, here's what's new with r20.4:

CPU:
  • fixed bug in the division SWI
  • improved IRQ handling a bit
  • added emulation of GetCrc16, GetSineTable, GetPitchTable and GetVolumeTable
GPU:
  • fixed a bug in the backdrop color selection that would sometimes occur
  • fixed a bug in the rendering of 256-color r/s BGs (mode 4)
  • modified palette offset calculation for 256-color textures
GUI:
  • fixed a bug where the emulator would occasionally freeze for a couple of seconds
  • fixed a bug where CFlash initialization would sometimes fail when loading a ROM through the File Menu
  • CFlash Emulation is now automatically disabled when a compressed ROM is loaded (.zip/7z)
  • added a dummy sound emulation mode that works on computers with no DirectSound (EmulateSound=2 in dualis.ini)
  • fixed a bug related to loading a ROM by double-clicking it in explorer
  • added a "Recent" menu
  • fixed some bugs in the map viewer
MMU:
  • fixed an LZ77 decompression bug
Make sure to check out the readme! Oh, and the full source can be found at the zip file, so you might wanna go ahead and tweak some features yourself using the app.

DeSmuME running WarioWare - Image 1The DeSmuME development team is back with a new version of DeSmuME, its Nintendo DS emulator for PCs and Linux operating systems. In addition to bug fixes, 3D emulation was also introduced to DeSmuME version 0.7.0, as well as sprite rotation and scaling.

  • A bunch of fixes [Dmitry Krutskih]
  • Fixed a bug in sound that was causing it to still not work for some people [cyberwarriorx]
GTK:
  • Added 3D emulation
  • Added command line options.
  • Added option to use OpenGL to render window (allows resizing).
GTK-Glade:

Give it a try, and don't forget to check the readme for more information. If you're interested in the Linux variants, don't hesitate to visit the team's website and drop the devs a line as well. Enjoy!

DeSmuME v0.5.0NDS has updated the DeSmuMe homebrew, a DS Emulator for the PC. What it does is boot DS homebrew apps and games (some of which are playable) on PCs.

Also, the app allows DS homebrew devs to test drive their apps and iron out the kinks in their PCs before loading them on their DS. No need to switch back and forth!

Originally a project of YopYop, DeSmuME v0.5.0 is now 100% C code, compiles and runs on 64-bit compilers, FAT/CompactFlash emulation, framebuffer emulation, sound emulation, backup memory emulation, and save states.

So far, early users reported a few bugs but NDS assures all he isn't finish with it yet.

Anyway, please refer to the readme.win file (for Windows port) and the readme.lin (for the Linux port) for a lot more details.

GoodNDSRemember that DS emulator for PC, GoodNDS, that made updates on DeSmuME via icon changes and language translations? If yes (and if you happened to love what the previous release offered), then here's an update: v0.0.4. If this is the first time you're hearing about the emulator, here's the best time to get acquainted with goodnds' creation.

What to expect in v0.0.4? Read on:
  • Option to change video size (but it's currently not working)
  • Help button was added
  • A Pause message now appears
  • FastForward was changed a little
The developer of the DS emulator, which is very useful for 'brew developers, still promises to add better 2d and 3d graphics and to incorporate sounds in future releases. Meantime, enjoy v0.0.4. And as always, your constructive criticisms and suggestions are welcome.

GoodNDSFrom "goodnds" (contact via MSN Messenger) comes GoodNDS v0.0.3. This is a "new" Nintendo DS emulator for the PC (which can be a useful thing for homebrew developers). It is actually an update of DeSmuME, and the developer changed the name of DeSmuME to GoodNDS, changed the icon, and translated some of the words to English. The project now aims to add better 2D and 3D graphics and also aims to get sound working.

This is from the GoodNDS FAQ:
  • When is the next release? When we fix some graphics errors in the emulator.
  • Will it have WiFi? WiFi will probably be the last thing we add.
  • How come in GoodNDS v0.0.3, I can't load my game's save state? Well its a little weird because you have to use the same GoodNDS executable that you used to save it with.
  • Why does the emulator say error and freezes on me when im pressing a buttion? Its because you can only press the buttions that are set up for it or it freezes.
  • How come I only see a black screen? Ether you pressed a wrong buttion or the emulator doesent support that game.
  • Does GoodNDS have 3D graphics? It does. But not very good 3D graphics right now.
If you care to try it out, please let us know what you think about it.

doublec has released a new version of DSEmu, version 0.4.10. DSEmu is an open source Nintendo DS Emulator, originally written and released by Imran Nazar under the BSD license. This program allows a user to test and debug homebrew code without having to constantly transfer the freshly compiled code to your NDS. Changes in this release include:

- Sprite support fixed. Homebrew demos with sprites should now start to work.
- Support for some 8 bit graphics modes with palletes.
- Fixed crash that occurred occasionally in mode 5 rendering.
- Workaround for a thumb emulation bug that occurs with devkitpro r17 compiled programs (to be fixed properly in 0.4.11).
