Satoru Iwata Nintendo - Image 1Sony's PSP product  manager John Koller has remarked that the Nintendo DS should be worrying about the iPhone's entry into the handheld gaming scene. Not so, says Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, who explained that while he appreciates and uses an iPhone himself, he does not see the iPhone as a potential threat to Nintendo's DS handheld.

The iPhone may have its own good portable gaming offerings, such as Spore and Bomberman Touch, but Iwata is not batting an eyelash towards Apple's best-selling handset:

I know that it's an attractive product, but when I look carefully at the iPhone's users vs. the users of our Nintendo DS, I understand there are some overlaps. And if you ask 'Is the overlap too big?,' my answer is no, not so much.

We somehow agree with his sentiments: the Nintendo DS is built primarily as a gaming device, while the iPhone - packed with all the goodness afforded by its user-friendly tactile user interface - is still a phone, and no doubt people who bought the Apple handset intends to use it mainly to make calls.
